Sumaya is a pet friendly holiday cottage with a swimming pool in Lymington. It’s a family bolthole all single level with all the extras for keeping grandparents, parents, teenagers or smalls very happy and we think perfect for family gatherings and birthdays.

The garden is enormous. There is a good supply of toys. A play house. The pool is heated from Easter to end September. Anyone needing a break can escape to a good pub, 2 minutes walk, or a pick-your-own strawberry field, and golf course (and adventure golf in summer), 5 mins the other way.

The house is a bright and roomy and there’s nothing that’s overly precious or delicate, which parents of busy children will well appreciate.

The feel of the house is modern country with plenty of colour in the mix. Owner Hanna and her three energetic boys, stay as often as she can and have introduced delights from far-flung travels. The three double bedrooms have finely dressed beds in feather and down, one overlooking the estuary, one the pool and terrace and the 3rd to the side of the property. You’ll find a large, open plan kitchen dining and sitting room with views over the boat-filled Lymington estuary. It’s a room designed for socialising with a kitchen table for 10.The kitchen has a gas range cooker.

The two bathrooms are smart, clean. One has additional access from the terrace by the pool for showering and cleaning up muddy kids. Three bedrooms are big enough for travel cots. You can also fit another cot in the twin bedroom if required. The double with the nicest view is that dressed in pastel pales. The view is over the lawns toward Lymington harbour.

The pool is set on a ledge above the house and is fenced on 3 sides with a good sized wall on the other. Below it is a big, flat terrace, perfect for family celebration meals. If it rains, there’s plenty of space for doing the same inside. The kitchen/living area is open-plan is suited for caterers. Less mobile folk will appreciate the undercover car port right by the house which means they have to walk about 20 metres to their bedroom and the kitchen.

Pool

The pool is heated to 25-26 C from the start of the May Bank Holiday to mid Sept. It is raised on the uphill side of the house. It is fenced on 3 sides and there is a 4 foot wall on the side closest to the house. It has toys and floats for your use with a bubble solar cover. There is access to a shower room from the garden/pool.

Family

Everyone will enjoy the boaty view from here. All bedrooms are on one floor and are suitable for travel cots. Kids of all ages will love it here: smalls can play in the enclosed garden, there plenty of toys inside and out, a wooden playhouse and a swing.  We provide 1 high chair and 1 travel cot.

Best for…

Families and friends with small children. We have had some teens to stay here and they’ve loved the adventure golf (and proper golf) courses just beyond the back garden which is open in summer.

Accessibility

You can park in the carport which is attached to the house. There are no steps in the house. The terrace is the same level as the house, to access the garden there are steps on the paths.

What makes this special...

We love breaks here. After swimming head to the Pick your Own fruit farm across the field behind the house, or perhaps the golf course, or adventure golf – all next door over the fields. Yarmouth Beach is on the Isle of Wight and well worth a visit. You can go as foot passengers, no need for a car.

What we love

A 15 minute walk will take you into Lymington with plenty of ways to spoil, feed and entertain you. Walk an hour and a half along the coast, to the East, and you’ll arrive at the East End Arms pub (pictured) for a smart lunch.

Parents no longer have to be teenager-taxi…. teenagers can lounge by the pool, or enjoy independence and walk to for the Saltwater Baths to muck about on the 110 metre floating obstacle course (slippery, colourful madness on water) plus zorbs, paddleboards. Or they’ll love escaping to cafés for coffee and mooching.

If all that isn’t enough, take a ferry to the island and walk to Yarmouth beach – lovely with white sand and clear waters, rarely busy. There is a good barbecue here too. We have a great blogs on the best of the Wight Isle, just click here.

Don't just take our word for it...

  • We actually stayed at 'Sumaya' which is owned by New Forest Escapes, not the cottage on here. It was fab! The house was brilliant for all ages and catered really well for our one and four year olds - the toys and books were excellent, plus there is a very cute play house outside and the pool is wonderful, we just needed a little more sunshine! The wood burning stove inside provided a lovely cosy time and the kitchen was fabulously well equipped. It's in a great location, just 10/15 mins walk to a fruit pyo farm and the ferry terminal for the Isle of Wight (a totally do-able day trip - buy lunch at the fab deli in Yarmouth) and also near the train station which goes to Brockenhurst. It's about a 25 min walk into cute Lymington or a short drive. We loved it and spent time in the forest, beach and town (oh and a great day at Beaulieu). The in laws had excellent meals at the mill at gordelton and the east end arms. All in all it was brilliant and I'd happily return. It's quite expensive however it does have five bedrooms and the pool, what I would expect is another bathroom (the second master room is quite separate to the other bedrooms so we couldn't use it and be near the kids who still wake at night and our inlaws didn't want to use it as they wanted a toilet close by, I would recommend they add an ensuite by using some of the utility space if possible). The kids bedroom was great and brilliantly furnished with white co linen etc and the main master room was lovely. Our baby went in a travel cot in the bunk bed room and we took the small double, it was fine but no clothes storage whatsoever. Overall though we loved it - thank you! Family Finnigan 8/17
  • A group of 10 thirty-somethings and 2 babies, we stayed for a long weekend in June and it was absolutely brilliant. The house was great - really well equipped and plenty of room. The real star of the show however was the garden and the pool. The garden was perfect for lazing in the sun with a glass of fizz or a game of boule and the pool was absolutely beautiful (we were very lucky with the weather). Jan and the team made everything really easy for us with clear communication after we booked and Jan was at the house on arrival to show us the ropes. There was loads of suggestions of things to do in the area, but as the weather was so good we hardly left the pool / garden all weekend. Would 100% use New Forest Escapes again. Jeremy from London
