This is a fun place to hideout on holiday.  We love the private garden, the tiny treehouse, little gazebo and lots of outdoor toys. The styling here is simple, colourful and pretty. The bedrooms are sleek and lovely. It s well set up for families with multplei-generations.

Stay here for a good slice of coast. The seaside, at Keyhaven hamlet, is approx 2.5kms down a quiet lane. But we prefer to go via the footpath next door, through the wide fields, all with sea views and the Isle of Wight in the distance. The centre of things here is the pub, there are no shops, just lovely views and the boat trip to Hurst Castle. Equidistant (and with a whole lot more going on) is Milford on Sea village which and has amazing foodie options, there are some lovely independent shops there too. Go further afield, (all of 5 miles) to Lymington for more. Don’t miss Keyhaven for water-y activities, and Milford for miles of epic beaches.

more about this place...

Inside

You’ll park by the front door which takes you inside to the base of the stairs and into the sitting room area. The house is set up for families who will appreciate the thoughtful owners who’ve put a huge amount of effort and detail into this cottage. The kitchen is new, has plenty of kit for cooking, good views of the garden on both sides, and a separate dining room with a table to seat everyone will be perfect for family meals.

There is a good downstairs bedroom and ensuite shower – useful for those who don’t want to climb stairs.

Upstairs bedrooms are all a nice size for a small cottage. Each will fit a travel cot in. The green and blue bedrooms feel a little bit chi-chi, the kids bedroom is fun, with quirky details.

The upstairs bathroom is particularly smart with dark blue walls and a giant circular mirror. Post-beach-walk-baths will be indulgent.

Outside

The garden at the back is mainly flat and has good views to the pony paddocks beyond. The treehouse is small, and quite high, so won’t be suitable for all kids. The owners have hung a rope ladder for access which will help filter small children who don’t have the strength to climb up.

There is a small play gazebo in the garden too.

The dining room has double doors that open up onto a small terrace. To the left, with access from the kitchen door, is another terrace with a solid table for outdoor meals. This seats 8.

Home Truths

All of the bedrooms are a good size here. Travel cots fit in all rooms. The truckle bed pullout will make the kids room feel tight.

The little garden at the front is really for parking only because there is no gate to keep children off the lane.

Accessibility

You can park within 5 metres of the house. There is a small step into the house from the front. The downstairs bedroom has an ensuite bathroom but it doesn’t have any special handles or grab rails. To get into the outside terrace you need to step over the door lintel but otherwise it’s flat.

The stairs to the second floor have a good solid handrail.

what makes this special...

You’re so close to the coast here, and a very special part of the coast too. Walk only 1.5km, down a tiny lane, or across fields and little woods, to the boat-filled hamlet of Keyhaven. It has a tiny harbour (pictured), an infamous (smugglers) pub, The Gun, which has been recently re-invented with particularly good food.

If you’re walkers or cyclists, the coastal path, east to long beaches, or west to Lymington has superb views and good sold gravel footing.
Migrating birds are common visitors along this coast. Bring binoculars and books!

Use the footpaths that head east off the lane to get to Milford on Sea village, where you’ll find a fantastic range of foodie places. Further east along the coastal paths you’ll find long pebble and sandy beaches at Hordle Cliff that stretch toward Christchurch for miles and miles.

There is really good wild swimming in this area.  Hordle Cliff beach, is a great place to start. It’s 45 minutes walk, or 5 mins drive from your front door. Read our full guide below.

Read real reviews from guests that have stayed with us at Field View Cottage

We had a great stay here in Field View. We walked to the coast (Keyhaven aswell as Milford on Sea) several times via different routes crossing fields with amazing yellow rapeseed and a beautiful semi-natural forest with Oak and Bluebells. We explored the New Forest starting at the top end of Furzey Lane, Brockenhurst. The kids spent hours playing with the garden games and watching the horses from the height of the tree house. Thanks Andrew & Kath for making your lovely holiday home available to others. To all future guests; enjoy your time here!

more reviews from our guests...

The house is new with us in May 2021. Our own team have been helping the owners style and finish the house over the last 2 months. The project has been a total renovation and the finish is something we are very proud to bring you. The whole team have visited the house and we have rented houses in this area for the last 5 years. Keyhaven and Milford are such lovely areas. Enjoy!

the location...

We've put in the Insiders Guide to Milford here, but the house is on the back lane to Keyhaven - so here's a heads-up for you on this pretty village.

We love Keyhaven for it's great pub, no shops, wonderful crabbing, autumn beach foraging for samphire, and of course the coastal path - which is amazing for blowing the cobwebs away all year around. Make sure you read our Insiders Guide to Keyhaven too...

.

Milford on Sea is a lively and vibrant village just a few miles east of Lymington.  It sits on the coast and has extensive beach front which is sandy at mid-low tide.

The beach is always bustling in the summer months with windsurfers, kite surfers, kayakers and paddle boarders, plus swimmers enjoy the quick swim to the sandbar where groups gather to chat or splash around in the surf.
