Right in the middle of the areas most vibrant village and 10 minutes walk to the beach, this is one cool cottage. Perfect for friends and perfect for families. Saltwater is a location and house that packs a bigger punch than it’s size.

We love Milford on Sea. The village green is 90 seconds from your door, which means that the butcher, baker, grocer, top coffee shop, quirky independent supermarket and candlestick seller are within a stone’s throw. Even closer is The Wash House, a microbrewery (or some regard) where you can play board games, and order in your food from local amazing foodie places… there are loads, it’s a real destination here. The Thai place is the closest at 20 seconds walk, then a great Italian, then the brewery, then an ace deli, the famous fish+chip shop, several ‘proper job’ restaurants too.

The cottage itself has been recently renovated, beautifully put together for guests, there are two good sized bedrooms for 4 and on the top floor (up steep stairs) another room for 2. The garden is long, well fenced and great for sunbathing.

more about this place...

Inside

Walk through the front door into the cosy sitting room area followed by a kitchen/dining room. It’s a clever space. The kitchen, which was brand new in 2020, is very stylish yet practical. There is a table to fit 6  so everyone can get around for family meals.

There are two oversized arm chairs for lounging and yet more chatting. It’s a clever spot to put them – they get all the light and with the patio doors open you can sit here and be inside/outside at the same time.

Cottage stairs (steep) take you up the middle of the house and bedrooms on the first floor are nicely separated by a really good size family bathroom – so you get privacy, not so usual in terraced cottage homes! The master is at the back of the house overlooking the garden with the double/twin at the front of the house.

Very steep stairs take you up to the attic room which can simultaneously be used as a separate lounging/quiet room with the two singles beds used as sofas plus the comfy bean bags too, or as another bedroom.

Outside

The large patio door opens from the kitchen-dining area onto broad decking which is set up for enjoying the sun and having BBQ’s. The garden is lawned and long, great for small children to stretch their legs or to play swing ball or boules (provided)!

Home Truths

The stairs going up to the third floor are steep and not suitable for anyone who is a bit wobbly, they are narrow and steep. Older folk may well struggle here.

Accessibility

Downstairs the house has no steps. The stairs to the first floor have one side handrail. The bathroom is on the first floor and has a roll top bath and separate shower.

what makes this special...

The location.

Being so near a cool little foodie village means not having to cook at all.

The beach is 10 mins walk and one of the nicest in the area. For small and safe surf, head to Highcliffe beach which is 15 minutes by car to the east.

Milford on Sea beach is sandy mid-low tide and very pebbly at high tide. At Hordle Cliff bech sand bar reveals itself at very low tides which makes a shallow warm lagoon for kids to play in. Don’t miss the beaches at the base of Hurst Spit and then Keyhaven which are also lovely and only a few minutes further on. All these places are walkable from the house in under 15 minutes.

This area of the New Forest is usually over looked and let’s hope that continues. Those clever enough to visit will find pretty seaside villages with knockout views, good shopping, endless beaches that have yellow sand at mid to low tide, lines of colourful beach huts, good cafes and fabulous views of the Isle of Wight. Rarely busy, there are fewer tourists than many of Britain’s beach areas, and tacky tourist shops are rare!

Read real reviews from guests that have stayed with us at Saltwater Cottage

We had a lovely stay at Saltwater Cottage and we thought the cottage was just fantastic, beautiful interiors, very well equipped and everything felt very fresh and clean. The flowers and fresh milk and cake were also a lovely welcoming touch Thank you for all your tips and advice prior to the trip, particularly for putting us in touch with Jaunt Bikes who were wonderfully helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed their bikes. We look forward to booking another trip with you in the future.

The house is just 90 seconds from the village green and 10 minutes walk from the long beaches here. It's 40 seconds walk from the eccentric and fantastic microbrewery, The Wash House. Don't miss it!

Milford on Sea is a lively and vibrant village just a few miles east of Lymington.  It sits on the coast and has extensive beach front which is sandy at mid-low tide.

The beach is always bustling in the summer months with windsurfers, kite surfers, kayakers and paddle boarders, plus swimmers enjoy the quick swim to the sandbar where groups gather to chat or splash around in the surf.
