Seaview Cottage is seaside holiday cottage that is ideal for families who love to be just a stone’s throw from the water. Literally.

The combination of cottage + view is hard to beat. Romantics, writers and artists will be as happy here as families who come for the crabbing, exploring and wild play. The style is immaculate, fresh and on trend. The views broad, boaty and busy.

‘Sea-salts’ will enjoy watching the busy water. The kids will be crabbing for hours, or exploring the local tracks and trails.

The house was once two semi-detached cottages, almost matching in their design. You’ll find two bedrooms upstairs, two staircases to reach them, two sitting rooms (one’s now more of a playroom), and the kitchen runs along the width at the back.

The kitchen was added in a renovation and it transforms the downstairs spaces to something far more practical for families. The two sitting rooms means that adults get one, kids the other.  It’s delightfully quirky. Most of the rooms are mirrored one side to the other.

It has 2 large double bedrooms, one with a small cot room en suite. The bedrooms share a bathroom on the top floor. There is also a downstairs bunk room sleeping 4, and downstairs shower room toilet.

The interior has been recently full painted in creams, whites, blues and greys. There are accents of Danish style throughout and the odd bright colour amongst the gentle muted tones.  Coming off the garden there is a good sized patio with solid garden furniture for summer alfresco meals.

The garden is half an acre and enclosed. It rises up behind the house to some pony paddocks that back onto the National Park. Ponies are often in here and love to hand their heads over the fence for apples. Come prepared!

The car park overspill is slightly to the left of the cottage at the front. One car will fit in the parking by the house, another in the tuck in just before it.

Family

The 2 double bedrooms upstairs are suitable for 1 or 2 travel cots.We provide 1 high chair and 1 travel cot here. There is a DVD player but please bring your own DVDs. The garden is well enclosed but Houdini’s will still escape.

Best for…

2 families with kids in tow.

The area is rural and pretty, with access to the forest to the West. Calshot Activity Centre is 5 mins drive, Lepe beach is lovely and 7 mins drive, pretty Beaulieu is a rural drive on the back roads 15 mins away.

Accessibility

There are 2 sets of stairs in the cottage, both are very steep and narrow. There is a downstairs bedroom which has 2 bunk beds in it, so not really suitable for older folk.

So if you are organising a group with less mobile people then read our ideas (and tested excursions) here in our blog ‘Holidaying with less mobile folk? Here’s where to go, what to do!’

What makes this special...

First go crabbing. Second, go exploring trip and making dens in the woods behind the house – perfect for wild and loud games. The place has a mildly ‘Star Wars’ air…some of it was filmed in the giant and unused power station a few miles away. There is plenty of old massive piping left for kids to track toward the station too. BYO Stormtrooper suit.

What we love

The crabbing from here is excellent. We love getting takeaway from the pub and eating with our feet dangling over the harbour. There’s a great walk on the coastal path toward Calshot Activity Centre. To read all about it read more here

And because we are ever curious, we love tanker watching, there is massive boat traffic to watch here in the main ‘river’. The MarineTraffic.com site – will allow you to track and learn about the boats online that you’re watching.

theLocation...

The Beaulieu River is one of the few privately owned rivers in the world and has been in the ownership of the Montagu family for over 400 years. Land here is tightly held and cherished by residents. The area feels manicured and wild.

At the head of the river, you’ll find the village itself. Dating back to the 13th century, it’s perhaps one of the most iconic and most visited in the New Forest. The main draw here is the Palace, Gardens, Abbey and Motor museum. The village is picturesque with tiny redbrick houses, tiny shops, a chocolaterie, several good cafes, an excellent garden centre and learning garden make up the tiny High Street.

top picksTo do whilst you're here...

  • Beaulieu & The Motor Museum
    Beaulieu & The Motor Museum

A great family day out including the World of Top Gear, Palace and Gardens, Beaulieu Abbey and more! Rates 4.5 out of 5 after approx 5000 reviews – so we reckon its worth a mention.

If you don’t pay for entry, still go and visit the village. There are a few good independent shops, cream tea at The Montagu Arms (very good), good garden centre and cafe at Steph’s Kitchen, opposite is an excellent learning garden which is also well worth a look.

Make sure you stop for tea and cake in Mr Eddy’s Tea rooms and check for the seasonal events on their website.

  • Long Down Dairy Farm
    Long Down Dairy Farm
