Amongst the flora & fauna of the northern New Forest, this fab family-friendly home is a treat. We love the swimming pool, the sleek interiors, and the sunny ‘Pimms’ garden for afters!

Walk through the picket gate, and into the pages of a Country Living magazine photoshoot, this bijou cottage packs a punch- it’s all 19th Century beams, muted colours, and super stylish touches.

When you’ve bagsied one of the three boutique bedrooms upstairs (we love the master with the roll-top bath), the pool* is most definitely calling! The azure waters are undoubtedly the centrepiece amongst the sweet & rambling garden… but do stop to smell the roses, and  seek out the summer house for an afternoon of cards or cat naps!

The nearby village wouldn’t look out of place in TV costume drama, gorgeous! There are plenty of walking & biking routes to try out during your stay, but for a day out, take you pick from Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge, Peppa Pig World/ Paultons Theme Park or the New Forest Water Park to name a few!

*The pool is only open from May- September + is heated by solar panels (so temp might vary!). Please check with the team for exact dates. Heating surcharge will apply.

What makes this place special...

Highlights staying at this house and in the local area...

All the essential details.

Here's your full run down of this place, inside and out...

The owners have done a stirling job of renovating this lovely place. Whilst it is a small cottage, it's small and perfectly formed; with high quality furnishings and a modern feel.

The front door opens into the living room, with its pink velvety, squishy sofas & chairs perfectly setting the scene for slow country living... think board games & cosying by the woodburner.

The cottage is nearly 200 years old & there are plenty of quirks & characterful charms to take in- like the 'window hatch' that leads you through to the kitchen. With exposed original brick, and plenty of beams, the open-plan kitchen-diner offers a beautiful (and practical) space to wine & dine together.

The downstairs loo & utility room is another tick in our book, and the bijou snug would be a great place for the kids to hangout (behind closed doors) as well as being a quiet place to read, think or work.

Hidden behind a crooked wooden door, and up the windy stairs; the owner’s keen eye for design continues with heavy curtains, heavenly tiles and curated colours… you’re in for a treat!

There are two front-facing bedrooms that overlook the beautiful New Forest National Park, you can see across the forest as far as Southampton & Fawley in one direction & all the way up to hills south of Andover. There is an uber-stylish family bathroom, and its huge shower. The master bedroom is (quite possibly) the actual stuff of dreams, with its roll top bath en-suite!!!

And now… to the oasis outside…

Framed by a bounty of romantic blooms and whimsical planting, you would be forgiven for thinking the pool is a mirage- it's an unlikely and unexpected pleasure in a little cottage garden. The bright, azure waters provide the ultimate addition to your countryside escape, delighting all ages.

Open from May - September (please check with our teams on exact dates), the pool is 1.2M deep, it's gated and heated by solar-power. The summerhouse + outdoor table & chairs means there’s room for all to find a sunny spot!

On the drive, there’s space for two cars (even 3 at a squeeze) and also room to park another car behind the double gates (you are welcome to store bikes in the garden).

Home truths

Built in the 19th Century, when people were generally smaller, this isn't a house for people who want lots of height or storage space. The owner has styled it so beautifully that the photos make it look perfectly fitting, but if you want lots of space and room, then this may not be your house.

Woodlynch sits on a fairly busy road, the B3080, that runs between several quiet northern New Forest villages. You will be able to hear a bit of road noise but all windows are modern and double-glazed (these were all replaced this year). Just 2 miles south of the cottage, the road is unfenced where it crosses into the National Park. Be sure to travel within the 40mph limit because there will be wild ponies on the road.

The pool is only open from May - September - please ensure that you check in with our team when booking to see whether the pool will be open for use when you stay. As the pool is solar powered, the temperature will vary depending on the weather. Guests using the pool will be required to sign a waiver. Heating surcharge will apply for guests using the pool.

There is an extra charge for logs and kindling to burn on the fire (October- March) but feel free to BYO!

All bedrooms are located on the first floor (small winding stairs).

Taller guests may need to watch their heads on the beams! The road is the B3080, that runs between several quiet northern new forest villages. Just 2 miles south it is unfenced where it crosses into the National Park. Be sure to travel within the 40mph limit because there will be wild ponies, cows, pigs, sheep, deer and donkey's on the road, all of which you can encounter when making your way across the forest, sometimes on 1 journey!

Location, location, location...

This particular area of the New Forest is a little more tranquil than others, so is great to enjoy quieter wanders and bike rides.

There's a fab walk from your doorstep (Tinney's Fir), and a small shop (Swanny's convenience & post office) + takeaway only 2 minutes down the road from Woodlynch. Just opposite the takeaways is the Kings Head pub which offers lovely food & drink, but you're also only 1.5 miles away from the sweetest village of Downton- which boasts the very popular Borough Cafe, the lovely home-made food (including wood fired pizzas) available at the Wooden Spoon & the Co-Op store which offers long-opening hours for your everyday needs.

With both Fordingbridge & Salisbury competing for your attention, there are plenty of sightseeing / historical attractions nearby + a few day trips that the kids + adults will love! Click on the map to explore some more...

We had a lovely visit and enjoyed our stay. The homemade cake was an extra special treat on our arrival. There was plenty of books and kids toys to keep the children occupied and plenty of spare bedding and towels if needed them. 5 stars.

March 2022

Amazing little cottage in a beautiful part of the country, right on the edge of the New Forest and only a stones throw from Salisbury, Winchester and Stonehenge. My family had an amazing time.

What a beautiful place to stay. Everything was here that we could possibly need. Lovely to arrive and see the Christmas tree and the beautiful plate of mince pies. Thank you. The dogs enjoyed their stay and loved the enclosed garden. The cottage is amazing. Thank you for such an enjoyable stay that felt like a home from home.

December 2022

Woodlynch is a lovely, classy, cosy cottage and we loved our stay here. It had easily enough room for six adults and a dog and was beautifully designed. The location suited us perfectly and it was absolutely great to have a swimming pool. We hope to stay again.
