Best Sunday Roasts in the New Forest

There’s something especially tasty about a Sunday roast after an adventure in the great outdoors. And so, with the New Forest offering ancient woodland walks, coastal jaunts and open-heathland escapades, it’s little wonder there are plenty of places here serving up a seriously good roast! Here are some of our favourite spots to hit for Sunday lunch.

White Hart, Lymington

Set in a cosy Grade II listed building, this award-winning gastro pub is the perfect backdrop for a hearty Sunday lunch. Drop in for a well-deserved rest after walks along the coast or Lymington’s cobbled streets. The Sunday roasts here are absolutely legendary, with bottomless Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes and gravy. Choose from beef rump, chicken, pork loin or the veggie beetroot and cheddar pasty; there’s something for everyone.

You’re also treated to a menu of Sunday starters, alternative mains and sumptuous puddings, if you’ve still got room!

The Filly Inn, Brockenhurst

This idyllic country inn, complete with charming interiors featuring exposed beams and brickwork, is set alongside the stunning Roydon Woods Nature Reserve, offering easy access to a range of lovely walks. Named for the monkeys that were once kept by a historic landlord (don’t worry, those days are long gone!), this characterful 18th-century pub is a cosy spot that invites you to rest and refuel. Get stuck into a tasty roast of beef, pork belly or roasted autumn squash with all the accoutrements, including Yorkshire puds, beef dripping, roasties, roast carrots, parsnips and buttered greens.

The Master Builders, Buckler’s Hard

Whether you’ve spent the day out on the water or enjoying a meandering walk, The Master Builders makes a fitting stop for Sunday lunch. Expect a classic roast, a welcoming setting and plenty of character, with the picturesque river on your doorstep and the beautiful New Forest all around.

Situated right on the cliff top overlooking the Solent, The Cliff House is the place to enjoy a Sunday lunch with a view. Retreat here after a windswept walk along the beach for relaxed dining, cosy surroundings and a tempting Sunday menu. Choose from roast beef, pork loin, chicken or nut roast, all served with the classic trimmings. With sweeping coastal views and heavenly food, what’s not to love?
