The area here is 50% ancient forest with towering trees and 50% heathery heathland. Ponies and cattle live wild in the area and wander the roads and village centre as they wish.
The Burley golf course is one of the oddest in Britain. It sits directly in the National Park and ponies graze the greens, sometimes pigs too. Eccentric? Certainly!
We love the ice-cream shop, the excellent butcher and the first-class deli. The local White Buck pub is well respected for food and drink.

The area is highly protected, so once you’re inside the park, you’re in proper countryside and will find the wild ponies and commoner’s animals roaming about – go steady on the roads – they have right of way!
