This stylish, little house, is a 1970’s build, but don’t judge a book by it’s cover! Inside it’s like a tardis, and really well organised for guests who want to relax and explore the area.
Three smart bedrooms, two bathrooms, plenty of space downstairs, a south facing conservatory and terrace make for perfect sunbathing conditions.
You will be stuck for choosing to stay in, or hit the beach. The location here is fab’. The house sits just behind a sea-facing development above Hordle Cliff beach and west of Milford on Sea village a 15 minutes walk. You can walk to the beach in 3 minutes. (John, the lovely owner took out his stop watch and tested it for you!)
The beach here is fantastic. At mid-low tide, lovely golden sand is revealed. At high tide it’s pebbly up to the long lines of colourful beach huts that tuck in to the gentle cliff face. People swim here on the beach throughout the year. The sand bar in summer makes a very safe, warm and shallow lagoon for children to play in.

South Coast Cottages is the sister-brand of New Forest Escapes.
These houses are chosen because they are comfortable, premium and within 45 minutes drive of the coast.
more about this place...
Inside
Space has been used well here in the recent total renovation. The open plan downstairs area is the full width and length of the house. It feels generous in size for a small place. The conservatory is the full house width and lets in plenty of light. The colours downstairs are bold and dark, but with all the light, it feels fun and dramatic, rather than dark. The sitting room has masses of seating and a huge TV for cinema-style relaxing or catching up on the sport. .
The kitchen is smart, white, with electric oven and fridge/freezer. The kitchen table sits to one side in the large sitting room. There is a large Smart TV mounted above the old fireplace so watching a movie or sport here is easy. Large Sofa and arm chair. The conservatory has wicker sofa seating and you can open the modern sliding doors up to allow the sun in. It’s a real sun trap here and the light from the conservatory warms the house beautifully through the year.
Part of the garage has been reclaimed for a utility room, which is fab for storing prams, beach stuff and luggage.
The staircase has a wooden handrail for those who might need it.
Three upstairs bedrooms are small in size, as you’d expect in a terraced house, but they are light, bright and well dressed with 100% cotton linens.
Bathrooms are sparkly and practical and the main bedroom has a very small ensuite shower too.
Best for…
Space for 6 adults plus baby and those wanting to explore the coast.
Birdwatchers (Keyhaven Marshes is known for an astonishing variety of bird species) and it will appeal to keen walkers – the Solent Way is a 1 min walk and goes for miles here.
For those who love being active, running or cycling the seawall is great.
Water sports enthusiasts will have a great time. Not only are there opportunities to sail, but Hurst Spit (a mile-long shingle bank) shelters an expanse of quiet water superb for wild swimming, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and kite-surfing (there’s sufficient breeze over the top of the spit for lift).
Accessibility
The access to the cottage is flat and there is a small step into the cottage from the drive.

what makes this special...
People often swim from the beach here throughout the year. In summer there is a tidal sand bar which is revealed at very low tides and it creates a very shallow lagoon for small children to play in the warm waters.
We love walking from here to the beach 7 min flat walk, then on to the cafe at the The Cliff House hotel which has excellent views. Drop down to the beach here and walk home in a large circle. It’ll take you 20 minutes plus time for coffee on the way.
Lymington is 10 minutes drive away, but you’ll have missed Milford Village on the way and it has everything you would want, except a large supermarket, and is far nicer. Hollands Independent (mini) supermarket is excellent.
Don’t miss taking the tiny ferry to huge Hurst Castle Spit and the Castle itself. We love it for family play and couples time out. There is enough space here for a quiet and sunny picnic spot out of the wind or wild games of Hide and Seek. There is caféwhich is tiny and excellent, or our favourite thing is picnics on the castle keep roof.
You can crab at Keyhaven harbour, or for bigger crabs, a walk twenty minutes to the west will take you to the bridge over Sturt Pond. This is also a fabulous ‘Pooh sticks’ bridge. The boat trip out to Hurst Castle is fun and/or walk back via Hurst Spit. There are good park benches to stop at on the way. The views are beautiful.

the location...
The lane here is quiet and mostly locals. Walk left from the house and it will take you 3 mins to get to the sand at Hordle Cliff beach.
Milford on Sea is a lively and vibrant village just a few miles east of Lymington. It sits on the coast and has extensive beach front which is sandy at mid-low tide.
The beach is always bustling in the summer months with windsurfers, kite surfers, kayakers and paddle boarders, plus swimmers enjoy the quick swim to the sandbar where groups gather to chat or splash around in the surf.
