Being B Corp & Using Business as a Force for Good ™

In March 2022 we were HUGELY proud to certify as a B Corp™

You can find out more about our personal B Corp journey here, but as something that is so very important to us, we wanted to shed some light on what B Corp Certification is, and why this organisation is building a much-needed movement…

For the details on what we’ve achieved in our first year since certification – Read our 2022-2023 report

What is a B Corp?

B Corp certified companies are those that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency…

…simply put, B Corps are people who are using business as a force for good!™

B Corps (AKA ‘Better Corporations’)- have been evaluated to show that equally prioritise their ethics for people, planet and profit, and B Corp certification is fast becoming a trusted symbol for ethical businesses. This process is a lengthy and thorough one – requiring a transparent evaluation of every part of a business to determine where the company prioritises people & planet within its operations.

As part of this application (ours took nearly 6 months), companies are then scored on a points system. Companies are required to have a minimum of 80 points across all of the criteria sections to be successful- including: Governance, Environment, Workers, Community and Customers.

…We scored 95.7 points…!

Over 100 is considered outstanding… view our assessment scores in the B Corp directory.

Almost 75% of businesses drop out through the assessment programme, which is very tough, and the B Corp team take a granular approach to verifying all claims.

The 4 main benefits for businesses and for customers…

B Corps can be trusted, they must change their legal governance so that people, planet and profit all have the same emphasis, forever, even if the company or brand is sold.

There’s no greenwash – every claim is evidenced, and every B Corp has to undergo rigorous assessment every 3 years to reevaluate social and environmental impacts.

Because all results are public, it allows for a totally transparent view of businesses. You can compare B Corps against each other. Us too.

Advocacy is a huge part of the work. Supporting the industry, including competitors, to lead and make changes.

B Corps are found in 50 countries meaning the opportunities for accelerated learning are huge; working groups on tourism, climate change, communication – plus sharing resources and research.

We are in great company…

Many fellow B Corp businesses are paving the way for change… look out for this logo & do support them… they deserve it!
