Inside

Come on in. The quaint front porch leads into an inviting and comfortable open plan sitting-dining room. This is a relaxed get-together space filled with natural light from south facing windows. The style is modern country with a mix of natural finishes, soothing neutral shades, deep squashy sofas, cottaqey furniture, layered lighting and rugs over the carpet, plus TV and open fire. You can settle in and cosy down for toasty firelit evenings. There’s also a writing corner with an old desk (if you really must catch up on emails) while the dining area has a vintage sideboard and a good sized table that seats six comfortably.

Tucked beyond the sitting area is a family room with sofas in autumnal Forest gold. There’s a TV and lots of books and board games to keep all ages entertained. This room also has its own door onto the garden – super useful for children running in and out to play. For easy socialising, the sitting-dining room is connected via a wide archway to the kitchen breakfast room which has a modern farmhouse vibe. There’s shaker cabinetry in off-white, butler-style sink, garden views and huge old-fashioned larder, plus all the appliances required for rustling up big breakfasts, prepping picnics and serving scrummy suppers. An island unit with stools is perfect for perching and chatting over a cup of coffee or glass of something come evening.

Off the kitchen-breakfast room is an inner hallway with a door onto the garden. You can also enter the cottage by this side entrance. This practical hallway doubles as a boot room. With rows of hooks and timber-style tiled flooring, it’s spot on for muddy boots, jackets and pooches. The downstairs family bathroom, a generous space with big walk-in shower, sloping eaves and classic white suite, is also located off this hallway, and is well positioned for taking refreshing showers after jollies on the Forest or along the coast.

Upstairs
After days of fresh country air take the turning carpeted staircase up to three inviting bedrooms styled in a colour palette of soothing neutrals and earthy tones. These include the spacious, sunny, light-filled master bedroom suite with chaise longue, Forest outlook, dressing room and en suite bathroom. There’s also a cosy and chic double with garden views, and a kiddies’ room with bunks in leaf green and charming vintage country furniture. Hatchet Pond Cottage is in the perfect location for explorers and adventurers. Open Forest stretches for miles just over the road – including Hatchet Pond, the largest body of fresh water in the New Forest.

Around the corner (about a mile away) is beautiful Beaulieu - home to the spectacular Beaulieu Motor Museum and Palace House, plus Monty’s Inn for hearty food, and a charming High Street of bijou shops including boutiques, chocolatier, deli, galleries, vintage finds, coffee houses and tea rooms.

A gentle stroll away in East Boldre is The Turfcutters Arms, a proper dog friendly New Forest pub. There’s also Chapel Stores - stuffed with essentials as well as treats such as delicious local food and drink including cheeses, chutneys, jams, honey, beers and gins. This is the New Forest larder as foodie paradise.

Close by you’ll discover New Forest Activities Centre for everything from bike hire to bushcraft and canoeing. There’s also Buckler’s Hard – an historic18th century waterside village on the banks of the Beaulieu River that recently featured on BBC TV’s Digging for Britain. This is where Britain’s most important ships of the period were built including HMS Agamemnon – Nelson’s favourite.
Just five miles away (although in different directions) are both Brockenhurst, a village in the
heart of the Forest with mainline station (hop aboard for journeys to Bournemouth, Southampton and Winchester), and Lymington, the gorgeous Georgian market town

Really enjoyed our stay at Hatchet Pond cottage. Good for a young family, with a lovely garden. New Forest Escapes provided the right amount of support and contact.

Amazing stay at Hatchet Pond Cottage We had a lovely stay at Hatchet Pond Cottage. The cottage is in a stunning location with both the forest and coast on your doorstep. The cottage is spacious but also has a very cosy feeling . It is well equipped with everything you need. The beds are very comfortable with beautiful bed linen. We had a problem with the hot water during our stay but this was quickly sorted by New Forest Escapes so did not impact on our holiday. The shower over the bath in the upstairs bathroom was not working during our stay but is to be replaced soon. It would be good to have a more powerful shower in the downstairs bathroom. The property has lovely views and it was so peaceful and in the warmer months would be nice to enjoy the cottage garden. We will definitely be booking again.

A gorgeous, cosy cottage with the forest quite literally on your doorstep and right by Hatchet Pond. Waking up to ponies roaming right outside the door felt incredibly special and peaceful. The location is unbeatable! Highly recommend heading into Beaulieu Village and walking from Beaulieu to Bucklers Hard.
