What we love...

With its stylish, cozy interiors and three beautifully appointed king bedrooms, Nuthatch offers comfort and charm in equal measure.

Just steps from scenic walks and local pubs, Nuthatch provides an ideal base to explore the beauty of Brockenhurst and the New Forest.

Surrounded by woodland trails and ponies, this is a peaceful retreat ideal for nature lovers.

At Nuthatch the open Forest is, quite literally, on the doorstep. Guests can take in the wide views of green and woodland and watch ponies wander by from a bench in the front garden or a comfy oversized armchair in the cottage’s bay window.

This charming, mews-style village cottage was imaginatively fashioned from part of Brockenhurst’s iconic Cloud Hotel – itself created from a group of Forest cottages back in the 1900s.

Nuthatch feels away from it all, and yet Brockenhurst’s cafes, tea shops and traditional village stores are only a short level stroll. This is a village with a bit of a buzz. More delights include luxury spas, prestigious restaurants, a picturesque 18- hole golf course, bikes to be hired for wheely fun adventures, plus there’s a mainline station with services from London to Brockenhurst (in under 2 hours), Bournemouth to Southampton and Winchester. We suggest you leave the car at home!

Nuthatch has been thoughtfully designed to combine country, contemporary and character. Modern comforts are mixed with classic pieces, and a colour scheme of neutrals and warm tones inspired by woodland and river. The country chic vibe includes a panelled lounge and a light-filled kitchen-dining-sitting space where classic Crittall glazed doors open onto a private, sunny, walled courtyard garden. With BBQ, fire pit and table and chairs, it’s the perfect spot for relaxed drinks and al fresco eats.

For gentle slumbers, upstairs are three large bedrooms, two with vaulted ceilings, each decorated in calming tones reminiscent of misty mornings and woodland glades.

Parking up is super easy. There’s access across a cattle grid to a wide shingle drive running behind the cottage with an allocated parking space.

Here's your full run down of this place, inside and out...

Inside

The Edwardian-style front door opens onto a cosy panelled sitting room with a square bay window where you can sink into the oversized armchair heaped with cushions and gaze at the gorgeous Forest views. Or simply curl up on the squashy, deep sofa and relax. The style is modern country – mixing 21st century luxe with traditional elegance. There’s a smart TV on the wall, antique pieces, lamps, spots and downlights, rugs over French oak boards running through much of the ground floor.

The hallway leads to a generous and practical cloakroom with Edwardian style basin, slate grey tiled flooring, and lots of hooks for jackets (whilst the outside welly racks provide space for muddy boots). Next to the cloakroom is a well-organised utility with washer/ dryer, additional fridge, household goods and masses of storage cupboards in a lush shade of fern. Beyond the utility the spacious and stylish kitchen-dining-sitting room features chic teal cabinetry and stainless-steel worktops, fusing country with industrial vibes.

There’s all the appliances needed for rustling up supper, and an all-important coffee maker. A lovely rustic wooden table comfortably seats six on benches and dining chairs, plus there are a couple of inviting armchairs. This is just the space for relaxed get-togethers. Light streams through the classic Crittall glazed doors which open onto a private, south-facing, walled courtyard garden with BBQ and table and chairs. It’s spot on for evening drinks and al fresco eats.

Carpeted stairs (which can be partitioned off by a pull-across stair gate), divide at a small half-landing. One set of stairs lead to the master bedroom at the front of the cottage with airy vaulted ceiling and sash windows enjoying wide Foresty views. The scheme features soothing neutrals of pebble and stone, antique chest of drawers, comfy king size bed, and a boutique en suite featuring glam blue tiling.

The other set of stairs leads to two further large bedrooms, one with vaulted ceiling, and both decorated in warm earthy tones of mole, taupe and umber, and with views over the courtyard garden. Between them there’s a luxe family bathroom.

Or open up the kitchen-dining room to the suntrap walled courtyard garden. With its tables and chairs, Solo Stove firepit and BBQ, it’s the perfect spot for relaxing and chatting over an evening drink or an alfresco supper. Look up and stargaze. Brockenhurst’s wide dark night skies are a real spectacle.

Location, location, location...

Nuthatch is in an idyllic spot on the very edge of Brockenhurst, a village in the heart of the New Forest. Only a quiet lane separates this charming cottage from open Forest where ponies, donkey, cattle and pigs (in pannage season) roam free across expanses of grazed lawn, heath and woodland.

The call of adventure will prove irresistible. Pull on your boots and head off into this wild landscape criss-crossed by miles of tracks and paths. However, Brockenhurst’s tempting cafes, tea shops and traditional indie village stores are only a gentle stroll away – among them an award-winning bakery with amazing bread, pastries and pasties, excellent butchers and greengrocers. Fill your bags with delicious foodie buys for picnics and suppers while navigating the donkeys and ponies wandering down the high street (aka Brookley Road), while drivers and cyclists swish through the ford that runs across one end of the road, locally called the water splash.

There are numerous cafes, pubs and destination restaurants. Here are just a very few favourites: The Paddle in the Forest for brunch, Albero for modern Italian cooking, and the very first THE PIG - only a mile and half’s Foresty wander.

A range of treats includes ‘Brock Beach’, a riverside spot popular with families for dipping your toes and cooling off on a hot day, pampering spas, fine dining restaurants, country pubs, a picturesque 18-hole golf course, and comprehensive bike hire service (includes routes, helmets etc).

We loved staying at Nuthatch over the festive period. The location is great and the set up was excellent. The only downside was a lack of curtains in the living room which prohibited a bit of privacy in the evenings. Loved it though and would definitely stay again.

We had a lovely few days here with our children and their partners - some rain but didn't stop us enjoying some beautiful walks. Highly recommend White Tails for dinner and Esme Tea Rooms for lunch and afternoon tea. The property is in a great location and very high quality accommodation. Thanks for a lovely time.

We were a party of 2 guests staying at Nuthatch in 2 bedrooms, for a long weekend Thu-Sun. The house is lovely, very well appointed, comfortable & beautifully decorated. At the time of our visit the property was relatively new to the rental market & we did have a few minor teething problems with operating the central heating and a couple of bits of snagging - nothing that spoiled our overall enjoyment. Happily the management team responded promptly and managed to resolve swiftly which was greatly appreciated. Location is excellent. It’s central enough for a short walk to all the amenities & delicious eateries on offer in Brockenhurst, a short drive to the coast & other attractions, and mere steps away from the open expanses of the New Forest. It was peaceful & idyllic, picture-postcard pretty, everything you imagine that part of the world to be. We had hoped to see ponies of course, we never dreamt they really would be literally outside the door! And so many! We also loved the charming converted phone box located on the corner of the road, packed with books to borrow and useful maps & tips. We loved every minute of our trip and would return in a heartbeat. Thank you for having us!

Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us! The New Forest has been lovely too- we thought we might have to wander to see the ponies, to have them literally casually grazing outside the door is magical! The location is excellent. We've ventured to Lymington, Beaulieu, Bolderwood, Butlers Hard and Hengistbury Head- all fantastic! Locally we very much enjoyed strolls to Esme's tea rooms, The Huntsman and Albero. All in all a great few days! We did have a few niggles with fixtures in the house and the heating but nothing to spoil our enjoyment. Many thanks again!

Thank you for letting us stay at Nuthatch. The house is beautiful and had everything we could need for a relaxing stay. (Cat bingo is addictive!) We made occasional visits to Lymington and met up with family, which was lovely. We loved the sensor light in the bathroom – no need for noisy fans on during the night. Favourite Places and Activities: • The Forest – Wilverley in particular • Monkey World • Historic Docklands at Portsmouth • Hurst Spit/Keyhaven at sunset • Hengistbury Head • Many pubs! Chequers is always a favourite

This charming little cottage in Brockenhurst. Tucked away in the heart of the New Forest, it is the perfect peaceful escape. The cottage is cosy, clean and well-equipped. One of the real highlights is watching the New Forest ponies wander past the front gate, such a magical sight and a real treat if you're not used to it! The location is fantastic too, just a short walk into the village with great pubs, cafes, and the Pig hotel. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a quiet countryside break with a real taste of the New Forest.

Our family (0,5,8, 2 adults and a dog) have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Nuthatch. The house is well equipped for each of us and is in the perfect setting. We enjoyed a visit to Lymington market on a Saturday and had many trips to different areas of the New Forest. The shops are a lovely walk away and Milo enjoyed his trip to the pet shop which stocked natural treats. We visited Esme's Tea Rooms and a had a delicious lunch (luckily we had booked a table as it was very busy). The animals walking past the window have been a real treat. A truly memorable experience.
