What a find! Family-friendly, dog-friendly, and well set-up for couples… Nutshell Cottage’s super central Lymington location means that the buzzy High Street is just a mere saunter from your sofa!

After a day of adventures, a welcome retreat awaits back home… Small, but perfectly formed, we love how the Scandi styling and open-plan living encourages you to spend special time together. A neutral colour palette and high spec finishing touches add a feeling of laidback and luxe design throughout the three floors, and blends old with new to honour its Victorian beginnings. The sunny garden is the cherry on top for morning coffees, midday sunbathing, and evening nightcaps.

Featured in The Times’ ‘Top 10 places to live in the UK’, Lymington really does have it all, and Nutshell Cottage is in prime position to sample the old Georgian market town’s array of independent shops, bars & restaurants. Explore the bustling town, people watch at the Quay, or take to the waters- this is just the spot to experience life as a Lymington local

All the essential details.

Here's your full run down of this place, inside and out...

Showcasing a 'nod' to Nordic style, downstairs is home to a cosy open-plan, dining-sitting room area. With ample room for 6 at the table, Nutshell Cottage's smart little kitchen has all you need to whip up breakfast, lunch or supper. The simple & effective layout is perfectly set-up for holidaying; so that everyone can chat and mix by-day, or retreat to their gorgeous bedroom by-night.

The colours are similar in the whole house; all are easy on the eye and nothing jars. Oatmeal, basketry, linen, hessian, cream floorboards, vintage tiles, silver metallics... and acres of mirrors to flood the light in every room.

The owner clearly loves the bones of this cottage, and has kept them integral to the finished style here. Throughout the house there is plenty of exposed original brick work, various repurposed Victorian radiators, or really swanky modern ones. We love the mix of old & new here, it flows smoothly through & the production is sleek, so that you can relax in style.

The bedroom on the second floor has the original chimney brickwork exposed, and the caulbing (tiered brickwork) is a gorgeous feature. With its low- set (to the floor) super king bed, and large wall mirror, this calm space is perfect for sinking into after a busy day exploring. Talking of old & new- we love the two original balsa hat boxes, and their stirrup leather handles, that form the the bedside tables here!

With great storage, the twin room itself is small, and the beds are very close together- making it better suited for children or a single guest. The pictures on our website show the room clearly- so please do have a close look to see if its right for you.

The master bedroom at the front of the cottage has a lovely super king bed to recharge & as the owner is a lighting genius, you'll bathe in the relaxing hue. The small (but perfectly formed!) en-suite includes a bath with shower above, and we particularly love the little corner shelf finishes & the vintage floor tiles in this section!

We were really impressed with the two bathrooms in this house. Not just the creativity of utilising the space in this house, but the lighting and feel of them in general.

Do check out the 3D Virtual Tour of Nutshell Cottage, as it will allow you to get a reel feel for the place before you stay. Enjoy!

Home truths

The twin room is small, and the beds are placed very close together. We recommend this is used as a bedroom for little ones, or single occupancy- but the pictures (and tour) on our website show the room clearly so you can decide if it's suitable.

The garden here is small and to the rear of the cottage. As the property is terraced, please keep the noise to the a minimum for the neighbours.

There are two car permits (and a second set of keys) on the dining room table. The car park is accessed by coming out of the front door, turning right and then immediately left. It is St Thomas car park, a two minute walk. Make sure you put the car in a long stay slot not a short stay slot and move it and change the clock time every 20 hours. If you can find a parking space outside of the cottage (usually can - or can pretty quickly) it is free parking for an hour and good for unloading. There is a road around the corner where it is free parking if you have more than two cars or if you do not want to move the car after 20 hours in the car park. The road is Old Farm Walk. Come out of the house, turn right and first right down Belmore Road. The road is first on your left.

Please note that the upstairs fireplace is decorative only and not for use.

There is an extra charge for logs and kindling to burn on the downstairs fire (October- March) but feel free to BYO!

There is a small step into the house from the street. If you are visiting with less mobile people, then please do read our (tried & tested!) blog for excursion ideas- 'Holidaying with less mobile folk? Here's where to go, what to do!'

There is now a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs (to stop dogs not humans).

Location, location, location...

What a find! Perfectly positioned just off the top of Lymington's bustling High Street, you are close to all the action from our lovely Nutshell Cottage...

Just steps from your front door, start exploring the High Street from our fave florists (Yamsin's) and boutique (Muse & Moi). Follow the road down to pop in and out of cafes and shops at your leisure- and don't forget to bring your basket for the Saturday market! Keep wandering until you reach the cobbles (pick up an ice cream en-route) to hire a paddleboard or people watch on the Quay.

For those bringing younger guests, pop behind St Thomas Church on your way through to blow off steam at the play park here. Woodside Park (0.6 miles from Nutshell) is also well worth a visit for a dog walk, skate, or fairy-spotting excursion during your stay.

The Sea Wall is just gorgeous for a morning walk (or a bike ride into Milford for a day at the beach), and you can potter to start from the Royal Yacht Club (0.8 miles from Nutshell). You'll also find the Sea Water Baths here which we highly rate for a fun family day out in warmer months.

Pssst - With a feast of spots to eat out in Lymington (you'll be spoilt for choice), you've also find a Cook store, M&S and Waitrose within a stone's throw.

Great place in a perfect location. Lymington is a gorgeous place and we had so much fun exploring. We stayed here as we were attending a wedding in Pylewell park and this was a perfect location to get to the house. We would love to visit again in the future. Many thanks.

The cottage was perfect. It had everything we needed. Lovely comfy bed and large cosy towels. We felt completely relaxed and safe. The Lighthouse restaurant was very friendly especially towards our little dog! We enjoyed walking the high street on Saturday with the brilliant market stalls and independent shops. First visit to Lymington - we will remember the coastal walk and the comfy cottage. Thank you.

Dave & Norma April 2024

The location was good especially for local shops etc. Although lack of parking for more than an hour outside the cottage meant a bit of juggling the provision of two permits for the local car park was very helpful. The cottage was cosy and well equipped.

We stayed at Nutshell Cottage for our friends birthday. Excellent location right at the top of the Main Street. Car parking was very close by and we were provided with two pre paid display clocks. The area is very pretty and we did some lovely walks with our little dog. We went to a fabulous restaurant, The Elderflower - can highly recommend. Communication with New Forest Escapes was very easy and any queries were responded to very promptly. We had a lovely four days stay. Even the weather was kind to us!

Susie and friends March 2023

House was very comfortable and as we were there over Christmas, they had gone to the trouble of installing a Christmas Tree AND decorating it and had left a stocking hanging also. There was also a delicious lemon cake left for us in the kitchen. All much appreciated!

Alex and family December 2022

Beautiful cottage right in the centre of Lymington. House has everything you need with excellent service from the hosting team.

10/10, highly recommend.

Madeline May 2022

We had never been to Lymington before and we absolutely loved our stay. Nutshell Cottage is delightful and we highly recommend it as the perfect location to explore this beautiful part of the country. A special mention for Jan, the property manager, who was most helpful during our time in this gorgeous town.

David March 2022

We loved our stay here, it was super cosy and warm and well designed for our small group of 3. Location is great and parking is really simple and easy. We’d definitely stay again.

Danielle October 2021

We had a lovely stay in Lymington. The house is lovely, and perfectly equiped with everything we needed in the kitchen and comfy beds. There were 6 of us in the house but it never felt cramped. It is also situated well for walking into town or going to the seafront, meaning there is a good selection of pubs and restaurants very nearby.

Tim August 2021

Fabulous location, perfect for a family or couples! Great place to get away!

Frederica July 2021

The cottage is great in itself - can't think of anything else you'd want or need while staying there. And the location is perfect - just bowl out the front door, take a couple of steps and you're on the main street where most of the shops, pubs and restaurants are. Ann Louise was a brilliant host too. Hope anyone following in our footsteps has as good a break as we did.

Jo July 2021

This is a beautifully stylish, well equipped, super clean property. It is extremely well placed for walking in to Lymington, driving into the New Forest and day trips to the Isle of Wight. There is ample free parking nearby. The ground floor is wheelchair accessible. We now wish we'd booked a couple more nights. Would thoroughly recommend this property.
