From the second you glimpse Pylewell Park through its tree-lined driveway, you will feel as if you have ‘arrived’!

As the crowning glory of the manor house, the fabulous Penthouse boasts breathtaking views over endless acres of private grounds, sweeping across The Solent.

With a colourful history of poets, artists & musicians; the Penthouse style feels a part of that… and a glass of champagne or two are never out of place! When you have surveyed the land from your rooftop terrace… and that might take a while… please do head back down to explore your aristocratic apartment!

In the generous & grandiose living/dining area; the incredible views continue. Since 1874 it’s not changed much, except for a recent, and beautiful, interior renovation. Usually much is written about the houses in these write-ups. But the pictures tell plenty here: a fun 50’s-esque kitchen, the orange bathroom (complete with giant bath), and sumptuous sofas where you’ll spend most of your down time… unless you’re out on the upper deck spotting boats with your binoculars.

After shotgunning one of the 3 x gorgeous boudoirs, the gardens (and private path to the wild beach) are yours for the taking! In the 1800’s, as international travel and plant collecting became THE cool way to demonstrate your family kudos…trees and plants were as cool as super cars… the estate owners invested in foreign seed collecting and built an arboretum of must-see rare trees. The two Wellingtonia’s that frame the view from the back of the house are the result of that forethought, and are well admired by tree-lovers across Britain.

We love the forests of pink, peachy and yellow Magnolia’s that flower in Spring (and some in Autumn) + the lake walk has got to be one of the most secret and romantic walks to be experienced in Hampshire. Perfect for seriously ‘wow’ picnics…

Here's your full run down of this place, inside and out...

Inside

Follow the footsteps of butlers past, to ascend the Manor House’s secret staircase & discover your very own slice of palatial paradise… Pylewell Park Penthouse is truly fab!!!

As the jewel of the crown, let's start proceedings from your private terrace! On the top level, throw open the doors (a smoking jacket would be apt right about now) to survey the endless acres of grounds and gardens with views stretching across The Solent. This REALLY is a showstopper!!!!!!!

When you have soaked up the vast vistas… and that might take a while… please do head back downstairs to park your martini on the forte piano & explore some more.

With three gorgeous kingsize bedrooms to bagsy (each uber-plush, and with their own 'theme')... there is ample space for you all to feel at home.

The living/dining room overlooks the grounds; so whether reclining on the huge sofa, tinkling on the ivories (do feel free to try out the piano), or cosying up in-front of the fire... you may well feel like you are lording it, and we really wouldn't blame you!

Whilst you have many fine-dining and gastro places a few minutes drive away in Lymington (we also highly rate the local East End Arms), the green & retro kitchen definitely adds a dash of fun to food prep; with everything you need to brew, breakfast or supper.

Outside

Guests are encouraged to wander around the estate with 27 acres of gardens and a further 15 acres of arboretum.

In the late 1800’s the owners added a Japanese lake with ornamental bridges, islands, bamboo and starting what is now an extensive and important collection of Magnolia trees. A collection of rhododendrons was established and, now as the garden has reached it’s maturity, walking around the gardens is sensory treat. From March to end Sept, it’s particularly special. There is also a private path through the grounds here which will take you to the wild and remote bordering beach... what more could you ask for?!

You may share the grounds with guests of Pylewell Park Manor House... but with over 30 acres at your feet, there's plenty of room for all!

GardenWe've already mentioned the house gardens, the miles of tree-lined walkways, ornamental flower beds, sculpture walks, miles of estate roads and tracks to walk the dogs on, access to the beach... But did we mention the fabulous Cricket Ground with thatched pavilion... also in the grounds?!
ParkingParking for 2 cars outside the Penthouse entrance.

Home truths

- There is only 1 x bathroom in the penthouse (with an above-bath shower) for all guests to share, and 1 x additional WC.

- There are no lifts to access the property, and the penthouse is only accessible via stairs (seven flights). Please do note, the entrance area has enough room to store buggies, but babies will require carrying.

- Please DO NOT take children under the age of 12 onto the roof terrace, safety is paramount, and this is not suitable for young guests.

- This is a dog-friendly home, however dogs are not aloud in either the drawing room or onto the roof terrace of The Penthouse

- Please DO NOT take red wine into the drawing room due to the risk of spillages

- One complimentary basket of logs will be provided for your stay (Nov - March). Feel free to bring your own for any extra.

- Depending on availability, you are able to rent both the main house, and the penthouse, at the same time - however if you have only rented the penthouse out, there may be guests in the main house during your stay too. There are many acres to explore, and you will all be welcomed to use the grounds for the duration of your stay.

- The penthouse is secure from the main house, so you will be able to come and go as you please with a separate entrance to the main house.

- As the building, and much of its contents, dates back to being hundreds of years old, this house is not 'pristine and perfect' so please do expect a touch of 'rustic charm'.

GOOD TO KNOW:

-The garden balustrades are deteriorating in some places. If you are wandering about the garden, please do be particularly aware of the stonework structures.
-Please do not climb the trees, they are precious and many are important specimens.
-No smoking inside please, but outside is fine.
-No fireworks here, we are in the National Park and have to comply to their best-practice please.
-There is no jetty here so you can't come by boat... helicopter is fine - plenty of landing space.

Accessibility

To access the penthouse you will climb around seven small flights of stairs (built around an old / un-useable lift structure).
There are good handrails on the way up, but you'll want to keep any prams downstairs. Don't be put off by the thought of having to do a little bit of exercise to get upstairs - the views are 100% worth the effort!!!!!

Booking Information

Free and included in your booking cost are: all bedding and linen, towels for the house, kitchen essentials, any baby kit you've requested and cleaning the house after you leave.
