Here's your full run down of this place, inside and out...

Inside

Paying homage to its seaside surroundings, colourful water-based artworks and sculptures adorn Saltwood’s walls, adding playfulness to each room…

Whether cooking, feasting, or reclining, we love how sneaky peeks over The Solent also add a special something as you potter around. There’s an organic flow to main space here, so you’ll find it comes easily to drift from the (well-stocked) kitchen, to the (nifty) dining area, to the into the (cheery) living room.

The colour-drenched living room, with its plump sofas, are perfection for a post-feast stretch out. Light the fire, pour something soothing, and get plotting tomorrow’s plans… there are many to be made.

Each of the three bedrooms here offer a contemporary, comfortable, and upbeat sanctuary and; whilst we’d be super happy with the spacious king or en-suite master, younger guests will delight at the fun, deep sea décor in the twin!

From your door to the shore in just a one minute walk me, who needs a garden when the beach is your backyard?!

Just head to the end of your road to immerse yourself in coastal living. Here you’ll find a long shingle beach (there is sand at the water's edge during low tide), with jaw-dropping views stretching over to The Isle of Wight. As well as having miles of coastline to picnic, paddle and explore- you’ve also got a children’s playpark and café right at the end of your road.

There is parking for up to three cars in Saltwood’s private driveway. Please read our Home Truths section for more information.
ParkingThere is allocated parking for 2 cars.

Saltwood does not currently have EV charging facilities, or access to charge your car from the mains- but the carpark across the road does offer charging facilities.

Home truths

Saltwood is one of two homes located in a detached building; your host’s home is on the ground floor, and Saltwood is located on the first floor. The exterior of the house does need a bit of a facelift, and although the front door here is communal (shared with Saltwood's owner's), you will have your own separate entrance once inside, with a private stairway leading you upstairs.

Please keep the driveway area in front of the garage completely clear, as the owner's will be using this.

Please note that Saltwood is unable to provide high chairs, travel cots, or stair gates. We kindly recommend bringing your own if needed during your stay.

Lastly, the owners kindly ask that you don’t use the washing machine after 7pm (it makes it rather noisy downstairs).

There is an extra charge for logs and kindling to burn on the fire (October- March) but feel free to BYO!

Milford is a small but mighty seaside town that is brimming with character and adventures. Whilst the ocean is literally at the end of your road, the coastline here can also take you into Lymington (4.5 miles) in one direction, or Barton on Sea (4 miles) in the other... bike, run, birdwatch, or potter as you please to get exploring!

Who better to take recommendations from that your award-winning foodie owners? ... For relaxed pub grab you've got the Lazy Lion in Milford village, or a top notch roast at the Gun in Keyhaven. A little further afield in Christchurch, Meram Kitchen has fab Turkish food whilst The Jetty is a treat for a special occasion. If you are looking for a good cuppa, your local café, Saltwater, comes highly rated.

Weekend in Milton-on-Sea When I first booked I didn't realise we were on the first floor and without a garden (conflated too many properties!!) - but it really didn't matter at all. The property is so spacious and flooded with light, that you feel outdoors anyway, and with the great beach literally around the corner we didn't miss having a garden. All rooms are light and airy, there is everything you would need if you are self-catering, and the cupboards and drawers are brimming with stuff, a quick shuffle gave us some space for our own goodies. We were in the en-suite rooms, the bed is a double, and there is no real drawer space, if you are staying for a while it would have been nice to have better space for clothes and a full height hanging rail, and somewhere to put your make-up, deodorant etc, but each to their own, we made do. The shower was excellent, a full rain shower with good pressure. The sink was a little strange with a full width cover over the plug that was not easy to use, and it was not cleaned underneath, a little off putting. The large room was great, with two beds pushed together making it a super king (?) along with plenty of space. We didn't use the third bedroom but with twin beds there too, it would easily be made into another large bed, for three couples to share. Feedback on the main bathroom shower was concern that the water ended up on the bathroom floor as there is no shower curtain at the open end. There was lots of comfy seating space in the front room and the table easily accommodated 6 people too, be aware that some lamps are harder to reach to turn on and off, it may influence your lighting, but there are lots of lamps and the ambiance is brilliant, you can light the space how you wish. Milford-on-sea is a lovely village, with a green and plenty of nearby places to eat and drink. We had a huge supper at The Smugglers, great portions which filled our bellies and the staff were lovely. We also ate at the Lighthouse - again plenty of food that we demolished after building an appetite walking.

Wonderful stay, 5 stars. Have holidayed in UK for last 15 years and this accommodation is up there with the best. Very spacious apartment in a great location. Two cars can park easily. Comfy beds. Lounge sizeable. Kitchen and dining area really lovely. Modern and well decorated. Welcoming touches from hosts, cake, strawberries and jam. Weather could have been kinder but didn’t spoil the holiday.

Dawn June 2026

What a wonderful place to stay! Really lovely apartment with everything you needed to make it home from home. Location superb and we would definitely stay here again.

Liz May 2026

My brother''s 70th birthday. I booked Saltwood so that my family could all enjoy my brother's special birthday. We were not disappointed. Our accommodation and the New Forest were amazing.

Sheila April 2026

Comfortable, spacious and stylish flat. We stayed in Hayley and Herbert's flat because we had to move out of our nearby house due to building work, so we weren't really on holiday, but the flat is so lovely it felt like a holiday! It's comfortable, very spacious and beautifully furnished, also well-equipped and spotlessly clean. It's also in the perfect location for enjoying Milford - a stone's throw away from the beach and close to lots of lovely cafes and restaurants. Hayley gave us a warm welcome and was helpful but not intrusive throughout our stay. And makes a lovely cake!

Joanne January 2026

Excellent accommodation in a great location. We had an absolutely wonderful time at Saltwood for our family New Years holiday. The location was great (just seconds from the sea and a very short stroll into Milford) and the flat was warm, comfortable (plenty of room for 6 adults) and well furnished / equipped. The host were very attentive and welcoming, and on hand to answer any of our queries. All in all an excellent venue which we would highly recommend to others.

Daniel January 2026

We stayed for a week at Christmas and we already know the area, so knew the location so close to the sea was perfect for us. Hayley and Herbert were the perfect hosts, there when we needed them but not intrusive. The appartment has been beautifully renovated and was decorated for Christmas which wasn't in the details. Also a dishwasher which was not mentioned in the details, odd as I did ask the agent and I suspect some people think it's essential. Lots of extra touches that you don't usually find, also sea glimpses from two or three windows, again better than we'd expected. Lovely walks from the door east, west and "south" to Hurst Castle. A day out to Christchurch was special too. Ray's kitchen in Milford rounded off one lovely day.

Anne Tallon December 2025

The apartment is beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. Everything was prepared perfectly for our arrival with the wood burner ready for lighting, a lovely gift of cake, jam and cookies and fresh milk in the fridge. Fantastic location in a beautiful part of the country. We rented eBikes for a day and Sunday walked along the sea front to The Gunn Inn in Keyhaven. Only request is a few more matches for the wood burner as we ran out. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Tania Whitby October 2025

This apartment was perfect - the quality and how well equipped it was made our stay was perfect - it did not disappoint - the attention to detail was ideal - we had a fantastic time - our welcome home made cake and local biscuits and jam were very much appreciated.

What a lovely place to stay. In a perfect location, so comfortable and well equipped. We love the decor. Hayley and Herbert, you are both lovely hosts. This is our second visit to the New Forest and we have now seen most of the area. Visited Burley, Lyndhurst, Christchurch and Lymington. The self-drive boat hire in Christchurch was fun. Lymington fab for shopping, cafes and Saturday market. Mixed weather but we managed one day on the beach at Friars Cliff, there is parking nearby an its lifeguarded. Cottinghams Cafe in Lymington was lovely. We had great meals at the Chequers Inn and The Lighthouse. Thank you for the banana and chocolate loaf, and the biscuits really appreciated.
