What we love...

An unbeatable location, with picturesque high streets, popular watering holes and a train station just a short walk away.

A charming townhouse with a sociable layout, perfect for entertaining large numbers of guests.

Showstopping modern features, including a conservatory and a BBQ cabin, for those memorable holiday moments.

A gorgeous Georgian townhouse in the heart of Lymington, perfect for entertaining large groups or families. With a lovely open layout and some of the New Forest’s best attractions within walking distance, Captain’s Keep awaits for a jolly New Forest escape.

Captain’s Keep Style

We love the sociable setup of this traditional Georgian townhouse. A lovely, modern semi-open plan means the living, dining and kitchen areas flow together, perfect for entertaining large groups or simply milling around at your leisure.

Outside is sure to please everyone, with space to eat, drink and be merry… headlined by the showstopping BBQ cabin! There’s even a hammock to sleep it off afterwards.

Four bedrooms across three floors with two bathrooms also mean there are plenty of spaces to escape and unwind, including the delightful little conservatory.

About the Area

If exploring is your thing, there’s so much to see and do straight from your doorstep at Captain’s Keep. Located in the heart of Lymington, one of the New Forest’s most popular destinations, pretty much every activity you could want is within reach!

The Bosun’s Chair, one of our favourite watering holes, just happens to be next door! Lymington Train Station is also only 100 yards from your front door, which opens up so many possible adventures.

We’d definitely earmark a Saturday potter through the weekly market, and a Sunday mooch along the Sea Wall; pack binoculars to watch the birds & boats at play, and let the little ones try their hand at crabbing en route.

Spoilt for choice, you also have Brockenhurst’s pony-filled forest and the sparkly shores of Milford on Sea vying for a visit too… but, wherever you end up, come home to batten down the hatches and relax in style.

Inside

Our characterful townhouse is ship-shape, and absolutely ideal for friends & families looking to explore the Lymington and the New Forest...

Amongst its three floors you can expect nautical nods, top-notch kit, and a calming colour palette to make you all feel at home. We love how our Lymington escape blends all of the charm from its 1850's beginnings, with all of todays creature comforts... from rainforest showers to range cookers - you won't go without.

With a 'semi' open-plan kitchen/diner/living room, the main space here feels lovely & social, with a TV and mooching area by the log burner, and a dining table next to the kitchens hatch... but there's also a conservatory/TV room (just off the ground floor bedroom) for anyone seeking sanctuary or a cat nap.

After a night in the BBQ cabin, there's plenty of room for you to all hit the hammocks, with the downstairs bedroom + en-suite providing a great ground floor option. Upstairs, the family bathroom has ample room to scrub up, and there are three more gorgeous bedrooms to choose from... we shotgun the grown-up's 'crows nest' in the eaves. Whichever room you chose, you'll likely wake to the seagulls singing as a reminder that yet more coastal adventures await - what a way to start your day!

There's plenty of room inside for the whole party to snuggle in as you cook up a feast & swap tales into the small hours.

Home truths

There is an extra charge for logs and kindling to burn on the fire (October- March) but feel free to BYO!

Just a couple of FYIs when bagsying one of the 4 bedrooms... The staircase leading from the first floor to the top floor is steep & small and not suitable for children, and there is fairly limited hanging space in the downstairs bedroom.

The Bosun's Chair pub is next door to Captain's Keep, but there haven't been any complaints or problems from guests to-date (this is actually one of the local's favourites!).

Location, location, location...

Your Lymington townhouse is close to all of the action… just follow the call of the seagulls for a minute or two, to watch the world float by at the Quay. Grab a coffee as the little ones crab, before jumping ship onto a ‘Puffin pirate cruise' along the river.

Back on dry land, wander past a pub or two to find The Sea Wall and head out to watch the birds & boats at play on The Solent. From here you can walk all the way to Keyhaven in Milford, but you'll get stunning vistas no matter where you end up!.

Lymington's bustling High Street has a fab array of bustling boutiques & cafés, and we love scouring the stalls on a Saturday to see what treasures await! There are plenty of pubs & cafés here too, but you'll actually have the local's favourite (The Bosun's) literally next door to your escape.

Perfect for a car-free jolly, Lymington train Station is just 100 yards from your front door, and you can hop off in Brockenhurst (or head onwards to London in under 2 hours) to get off the beaten track & ramble amongst the ponies & donkeys… there are plenty of watering holes to refuel for afters!

A wonderful space and time with the family The house was well laid out with plenty of room for all. The pub next door was no problem. Would have preferred sheets rather than duvet but we did have an exceptionally hot period of weather. The car space was tight but much appreciated due to parking outside the property would have been a bit inconvenient. BBQ was a real asset and the garden area very comfortable.

We had a wonderful time in exploring the New Forest, Isle of Wight and Lymington itself. Captains Keep couldn’t be more perfectly positioned being minutes walk to Lymington town centre and all it had to offer, a stones throw from the train station which we used a couple of times to Brockenhurst and to Bournemouth, and the Wightlink Ferry to the Isle of Wight. The property itself was surprisingly bigger inside than we expected although with the early summer weather most evenings were spent in the garden with the BBQ. We had concerns about being next to the pub which turned out to be unfounded and it was quite nice to pop in for a cold drink in the beer garden prior to retiring to the house for the evening. The only thing we had difficulty with was parking, the drive was not wide or long enough (with gate closed) for either of our two cars. However for the most part we were able to find parking on the side street 100yards away or in the train station car park for a small fee. You can park outside from 6pm to 9am so we just had to be more organised.

We spent 4 nights at Captain’s Keep as a family of 5, plus grandparents. The property was immaculately clean and had everything we could need. The location was brilliant - just a few minutes walk from the cobblestoned streets of the quay where we had a fantastic brunch one morning - and it provided easy access to the beautiful New Forest. We loved our stay and hope to return at some point in the future.

Sian April 2026

Great accommodation and location for a large group. Would definitely stay again if visiting Lymington.

Andy April 2026

Fantastic stay, once again. Another fantastic stay at this wonderful property in Lymington. Ideally located and within walking distance to all the lovely town has to offer. Transport links nearby for easy access to the New Forest and the Isle of Wight. We will return!!

Simon April 2026

Lovely stay at Captains Keep - would thoroughly recommend. Very comfortable cottage and in an excellent location for all that Lymington and the surrounding area has to offer. The cottage was very clean and well equipped with a great coffee machine (and lots of pods provided) - excellent shower and comfortable beds. The owners were so helpful and even sent back a jacket we had left behind.

Emma April 2026

Perfect stay, perfect location. Close to everything and great that we had parking. Definitely a plus in Lymington.

Leandra March 2026

5 stars! Delightful Holiday. We had such a wonderful holiday at Captain’s Keep. We were celebrating a family birthday with our adult children joining us from London, so it was perfect having the station at the end of the road! The property was delightfully furnished, spotlessly clean and very quiet - so we all slept really well! It was a lovely touch that coffee pods, teabags, milk and biscuits were there on our arrival. The location was perfect - you could stroll round the corner to the lovely Lymington High Street and waterfront, and yet were within easy access of the beautiful New Forest walks. We also thoroughly enjoyed visiting Exbury Gardens and Beaulieu Palace Gardens and ate at some gorgeous restaurants. Our favourites were Rivaaz Lymington, The Gun Inn and The Pig. Would highly recommend the Captain’s Keep!!!

Erica March 2026

5 stars. Well presented and appointed accommodation .Excellent location, comfortable, and very much as advertised on the website. We had no complaints whatsoever during our short stay.

Graeme March 2026

The perfect place for group of friends. We stayed here for my husband’s surprise birthday, having self catering properties ourselves i was so impressed at the standard of the rooms and bathrooms every detail is thought of, the kitchen is well equipped and we used the gas BBQ even though it’s January! Good location for walking into town and visiting forest . I myself have taken home some tips from here to improve my own self catering property ! Highly recommend

Carla January 2026

We had the most wonderful Christmas week stay at The Captains Keep. The house was beautifully appointed and extremely well equipped. Everything was of a high standard with lots of thoughtful touches and all beautifully presented. The location was amazing. 3 minute walk into Lymington town and a short drive to some beautiful forest walks. We made use of the fabulous garden cabin which was super cozy on a cold December evening. The lovely staff at New Forest Escapes were absolutely charming. They were always happy to answer the numerous questions which I bombarded them with. Being Christmas week I wanted it to be perfect and it was. Would highly recommend.

Lisa Lyne January 2026

Great location. House like the Tardis from Doctor Who. Careful on the stairs - age matters! At the time of our visit, shame about the weather (TV not set-up for easy viewing). Lounge, kitchen, bedrooms, etc. modern and comfortable. Parking convenient for two small cars - thanks. Pathway to BBQ hut over grass, a little slippery! Family time to celebrate twin sons' birthday, we loved our time in the house, and with a next door pub! Thanks for this experience.

Paul November 2025

The house is in a fantastic location, very close to the harbour & high street. Its really well equipped, beds were very comfortable the smurf hut is a great addition. Found some lovely New Forest dog walks and can highly recommend the Ship Inn for food.

Chris Camody October 2025

We only stayed at Captains Keep for 2 nights, but would love to have stayed longer to fully appreciate the lovely house and the garden, with its amazing garden room. The house is very well equipped, with good quality furnishings and very comfortable beds. The living areas are set up well with spacious, practical, social seating. The only reason I have rated it 4 out of 5 stars for value for money, is due to the later check-in time of 4pm and the early check-out time. We had to be out by 10am, which spoilt having breakfast together, due to the rush in packing up and clearing everything out. An extra hour would have made a huge difference. Apart from that, it was a perfect, albeit short stay!

Deborah August 2025

The second time of staying at Captains Keep. Everything was as lovely as the first time. The house works for us as a family very well with my elderly parents able to stay in the downstairs bedroom. We also don't have a car so the house is very well located for the Quay, shops, restaurants, train station and bus stops. The weather was really good during our stay so we were able to spend some time sitting in the garden soaking up the sun. The house is very comfortable with everything we need and we immediately feel at home the minute we arrived. We are planning to stay for a third time next year so definitely recommend this as a place to stay.

Claire August 2025

A great property, well located a 2 minute walk to the High Street and the Quay. Well managed by NF Escapes and lovely caring owners. Well equipped, 4 large bedrooms, great outside space. We will definitely return. Thank you!

Chris August 2025

We had a great time at the Captain's Keep. Very nice house in a great location. Everything was in great condition, house has a nice luxury feel to it. Lots shops, pubs and restaurants, literally Just around the corner. Great place.for outings in the surrounding New Forest area.

Alexandra August 2025

Good furnishings and clean. Ideal location to access everything the town has to offer. Will happily return to this property.

Brian July 2025

Captains Keep was a perfect base for us during a regatta in Lymington. We had two rooms set up as twins, a remaining double at the top and the master ensuite double on the ground floor. We housed 6 in comfort. My only comment would be that in our implementation, it was important to be prepared to share the ensuite bathroom to prevent overcrowding in the morning rush on the one remaining bathroom. The kitchen was well equipped and spacious with plenty of room for storage. It was good to have outside space for drying kit and we welcomed the ability to park two cars as it is a drive from this location to Lymington Yacht Haven. The pub next door is very friendly and provided us with a good dinner on one night.

Simon Perry July 2025

What a lovely place! and Mark and Jo were friendly and generous. We enjoyed the space, it worked well for a group of friends and 2 dogs. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms well thought out and equipped with decent sized showers. It’s in a very central position and easy to get around from there. A great tardis like haven in the midst of lovely Lymington.

Deborah June 2025

We had a wonderful time at Captain’s Keep. The house is fantastic and laid out so well for a family to enjoy together. The garden is lovely and the BBQ cabin a truly amazing space to enjoy cooking or roasting marshmallows in any weather. The location is wonderful - a very short stroll to the quay and high street and the pub next door is very friendly and a lovely place for a drink or dinner. Having the parking is a real bonus too. Customer service was amazing, very responsive and helpful. We would love to come back again!

Jessica May 2025

There are amazing facilities supplied with the house which we loved! Including the washer dryer, BBQ and kids room etc. Thank you for a wonderful week in Lymington. P.S in 7 days we had 6 days of sunshine :)

Super house, lovely garden all very well equipped for a good holiday. Visited Hurst Castle - interesting journey in gale force winds. Amazing place. Enjoyed The Vyne and a final lunch as Samphire - Excellent.

Godfrey family April 2024

Thank you for the use of your lovely house. It has been an amazing birthday and family weekend. All three of our boys 'adult' back home in the UK so an amazing time was had by all. Lymington and house great location, BBQ room created a lovely space to talk and catch up on life. Best wishes to you all who use the Captains Keep.

Tracey, Jon and family March 2024

What a lovely house in a fantastic location. The house is well equipped, comfortable, child and dog friendly! Lymington is wonderful - a good place to use as a base to explore the New Forest and as a town it has nice dog friendly walks and some great family restaurants. Can recommend the nearby fish&chip shop and we adopted the pub next door as our local. We stayed in the Autumn and would love to return again in the spring/summer to make better use of the facilities on offer at the house.

Stuart October 2022

We walked in and immediately felt we were in a home from home. Everything felt quality from the appliances to the furnishings and the very comfy beds! The location is excellent, just a short walk from the ‘Cobbles’ and the sea front, and with easy access to the high street with its Saturday market lining the road and making for a good atmosphere. If you have children we recommend a cruise with the pirate captain on the Black Puffin, from the old town quay, dressing up as pirates and ‘firing the cannons’ at boats passing by was great fun for all on board the 30 minute cruise.
