Calling all fun-loving, waterside walking, cycling families, stylistas and wanderers…

Swallows Cottage is a super-duper, ticks-lots-of-boxes home away from home. This breezy, arty, fun-and-games getaway is perfect for families.

About the Area

It’s found on a quiet road in what is Lymington’s sweet spot, aka ‘South of the High Street’: a leafy residential enclave with marinas, riverside strolls and breezy seawall right on the doorstep. Meanwhile, Lymington’s gorgeous Georgian High Street, with its buzzy Saturday morning market, browsable boutiques, relaxed cafes and swish restaurants, is a five-minute stroll away.

Swallows Cottage Style

Swallows Cottage has traditional charm on the outside. However, step through its Edwardian-style front door and inside is fresh, colourful and coastal contemporary.

Recently refurbed, the interiors are both stylish and homely. There is a sitting room for snuggling in and a big, relaxed, light-filled open plan family room and dining area. This fantastic space has bifolds onto a dining terrace that captures the morning sun with lawned gardens prettily shaded by apple trees.

At the bottom of the garden a summer house provides a Wendy house-style play area, as well as useful racks for cycle storage.

Dining Out Near Swallows Cottage

The country contemporary kitchen combines a butler sink and an induction hob and is really well-equipped for rustling up lunch or supper. However, you may be tempted not to bother! The Haven Bar & Restaurant, with its yachty views, is around the corner and serves up everything from breakfast to cocktails. Plus, there are two good pubs, also just round nearby corners, and highly recommended restaurants on Lymington’s High Street and Quay Hill.

Swallows Cottage is simply spot on for active families, keen walkers, water sports enthusiasts and cyclists, as coastal jollies are right on the doorstep for enjoying.

Inside

Swallows Cottage is found down a lovely road of character properties in a quiet corner of Lymington that’s wonderfully close to the seawall, yachting clubs and marinas. It has traditional period charm on the outside, step inside, however, and this welcoming family house has a relaxed yet vibrant contemporary coastal style.

The entrance door opens onto an invitingly snug sitting room, perfect for relaxed chilling, with parquet flooring and a deep sofa in a stunning shade of tomato. This leads through to a beautiful light-filled, open plan family room and dining area with bifolds opening onto the garden. There’s a big dining table that comfortably seats eight and masses of comfy seating with inviting curvy green sofa and yellow armchairs. There’s a TV with soundbar, plus lots of books, lots of toys and lots of games to keep everyone happy.

The use of colour throughout is riotous and glorious. There’s also plenty of coastal-inspired artwork by local artists, such as lobster prints in ocean blue, seascapes, and flights of swallows up the stairs. This house is colourful and cosy yet practical. There’s masses of storage space, while a utility with washing machine, handily located off the family room, is super organised and includes a little cloakroom with grey cabinetry.

The kitchen leads off the dining area and features wholesome modern country good looks with classic butler’s sink and quaker style cabinets, smart induction hob, and not one but two fridges for stashing away tasty local produce. A useful bench provides a great space for getting creative with the cookbooks – and there are a lot of cookbooks here. This kitchen is really well equipped so keen cooks will be happy to whizz up something delicious.

The vibe at Swallows Cottage is homely with a comfy family feel. It is particularly well kitted out for a young family (or two) as there are two high chairs, two travel cots and an option to lower blackout blinds in the kiddies’ bedrooms.

Up the carpeted stairs, the first bedroom you reach is a sweet little room with bunk beds and garden views. There are two rooms overlooking the front: a twin bed and a double, and a rather swish family bathroom. The principal double bedroom overlooks the garden and has an en suite shower room and dressing area. Overall, the bedrooms’ style is soothing country tones for easy slumbers.

This useful space also has cycle racks for storing bikes, and cyclists are encouraged to bring their bikes. The summer house also has great WIFI, making it a good space for remote working.

Location, location, location...

If you are looking for a prime location to savour the Lymington good life from, this really is it!

The saughtafter postcode at Swallows Cottage means that you are mere minutes from enjoying 'The Sea Wall' in all its glory. You can head left into Lymington, or right to wander for a few miles to Keyhaven & Milford on Sea’s beaches; bird & boat watching as you go.

With a fab array of pubs to potter to, The Haven (our fave for views!) happens to be your local… just follow the masts for a minute or two. Head into Lymington High Street to find a buzzy array of shops, & cafés… and yet more pubs… and be sure to plan in a people-watching stop down the cobbles on The Quay.

Lymington Train Station is a stone’s throw from The Quay and will take you straight to the very well-connected station at Brockenhurst, where lots of forest-filled adventures await. You can also take a 2 minute journey in the other direction to the Isle of Wight ferry for a day trip into Yarmouth… adventures await!!

Gorgeous well-equipped home in quiet location. We loved staying here. The decor in the house was very tasteful and it was extremely well-equipped particularly in the kitchen. It is in a very peaceful residential area a few minutes walk from the marinas and The Haven which is a great restaurant. New Forest Escapes were lovely to deal with and very professional and responsive.

This was the perfect house for a big family get together. So much space for kids to run around, brilliant garden and everything you need in the kitchen. Close to the marina and walking distance to lots of shops and bars. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Sarah was also an incredibly responsive and helpful host!

An absolutely gorgeous house. Incredibly spacious and very clean. The hosts have thought of everything - it’s the best kitted out place we’ve stayed in. We stayed with friends and had four children between us (ages 3-6). They had the time of their lives. There was no need for us to pack any toys/ books as the house has an abundance of things to entertain them. We didn’t walk into Lymington as it was just a bit too far for little legs but did visit Hurst Castle, the beach and Brockenhurst for a picnic by the river.

Fantastic cottage for a family stay. We stayed for a week at Swallows Cottage and would wholeheartedly recommend it (and hope to come again!). Customer service prior to our stay was excellent and the cottage itself was superb! Brilliantly equipped (they really have thought of everything for a family stay - our 3 year old particularly enjoyed the vast selection of toys!), comfortable and stylish and in a great location - walkable to the marina and the high street. Lymington itself is wonderful with a lovely selection of shops, cafes and restaurants and is a perfect base for exploring the area. 10/10!

What a beautiful stay we had, 6 girls for the weekend and all I can say it was perfect in every way !

Lorraine February 2026

We stayed here for my husbands 70th birthday with our son and daughter’s families. It was perfect for us all: an 8 week old baby, 4&6 year old grandchildren and 4 adults. We were so impressed with how spacious and well laid out the house was. Everything was so comfortable especially the sofa and beds. The kitchen is very well supplied - we had a chef cook for us on Friday and she found everything she needed very easily. We had a delicious lunch for 10 at the Haven Bar in full sunshine as recommended by Olivia. The house was cosy despite the freezing temperatures. Our 4 year old grandson loved playing with the dolls house in the garden room and we’d love to have stayed longer to play with the exceptional range of games in the house. If you are a book worm there is a huge library for babies to adults. Altogether it was the perfect place for us all and we were very lucky to have very sunny days to celebrate my husband’s birthday in style. Thank you all for making it so special.

We stayed at Swallows Cottage for five nights in September. I couldn't fault the accommodation - very comfortable beds with good quality bed linen and towels. Excellently equipped kitchen, plenty of everything if you plan to cook. Four good sized bedrooms. The are is quiet, residential but easy walking to the marina, a bit further to get into town. The only thing lacking is some curtains for the patio windows. I can definitely recommend this property and would stay here again.

Georgina Deer September 2025

We are seven friends who love to go walking together. We have had a wonderful week; the weather has been perfect, and the house and garden are spacious, comfortable and immaculate. I have never been to a house with such excellent amenities - I would ideally like to live here! Ironing board, tumble dryer, garden shed, children's toys, charger plugs. Fantastic, thank you for being so thoughtful. We took the X1 bus to Milford on Sea and walked to Keyhaven to take the ferry to Hurst Castle (fantastic views of the Isle of Wight from its ramparts) and then walked back along the spit towards Milford stopping to swim on our way back. We did the inflatable course at the Sea Water Baths (fantastic fun!) and this afternoon we have booked a paddle board session there. We highly recommend Deep Blue fish and chips on the high street. We took the ferry to Yarmouth in the Isle of Wight and walked along the River Yar to Freshwater Bay. At Brockenhurst we walked among the ponies and stopped at St Nicholas Church to see the grave of the man who caught 30,000 adders. We had a celebration afternoon tea at Stanwell House, and it was wonderful. Thank you for everything.

Super holiday home, you have thought of everything . Perfect for children, our little girl loved all the touches and the Wendy house! A real home from home. We tried local pubs and restaurants including the Mayflower and the Haven. Day trips to the beaches as well as locals farms and wildlife , We had a blast. No complaints and not a lot could have been better. Thank you!
