What we love...

A 17th-century converted church bursting with history and authentic period features, including an organ!

All the modern conveniences, with plenty of room for everyone to relax and play.

A fabulous outdoor hot tub for those leisurely soaks.

Steeped in history and oozing with character, there’s plenty of space to congregate with your favourite people at our gorgeous Old Church.

The Old Church Style

Whether it’s singing for your supper around the organ or enjoying aperitifs beside the altar, this 17th-century gem is quite the find!

Marrying old and new to perfection, you’re bound to be smitten from the start; just walk the aisle to admire the artworks and adornments under magnificently high ceilings and showstopping arched windows.

While its 400-year-old heritage sets the scene for a seriously special stay, lots of playful touches are also set to surprise and delight. Flip the table to go from supper to snooker in a jiffy, hit the books to reveal the secret bell tower, or gather everyone on the mezzanine for a marathon games-a-thon.

Explore the Area

Although our heavenly hideaway offers all you need to hunker down, the forest is also not far, and acres of fun await.

For day tripping, the nearby town of Ringwood is perfect for a riverside potter and pint, but closer to home (literally just a few doors down), your local Sunday carvery is absolutely top-notch!

Inside

We love how the interior design throughout our renovated church is sympathetic to its old bones, whilst being equally as 21st Century-staycation savvy…

The ground floor is a complete showstopper. Arched windows drench the space with light, and extraordinarily high ceilings create undeniable wow-factor! From dramatic chandeliers and designer paintings, to religious relics and record players- centuries worth of design & innovation combine to form an original and elevated New Forest escape.

With its open-plan living, dining, and kitchen areas spread out amongst a charming patchwork of flooring (including the church’s original brick aisle!)- ambling around the altar whilst playing snooker, or having a tinkle on the organ before a TV binge, creates quite the surreal juxtaposition!

The separate storage room for buggies & bikes down here is extra handy; as is the Dutch door that sections off the swish downstairs bathroom, the sparkling utility area, and the stairs to the mezzanine level… Head up halfway to admire the heavenly architecture from a height, or grab a beanbag & fire up the games console from the entresol’s nifty nook.

When you are ready to retire, follow the spiral staircase to the top floor where three cosy bedrooms, and an additional two bathrooms, are cocooned amongst the eaves. The beamy low ceilings add an abundance of charm and, whilst the master boasts an exposed brickwork feature wall & king size bed, the whimsical wallpapered doubles are equally as charming (all three have the bonus of blackout blinds).

As a plot twist to your normal bedtime reading; swing open the bookshelf to reveal the old bell tower and marvel in what a glorious getaway you have found!

Home truths

Due to the unique layout at The Old Church (namely the mezzanine level, the spiral staircase and the old bell tower hideout), we kindly ask guests to supervise young children at all times. The stable door (next to the kitchen) helps to separate access to the split level and first floor, but please do speak to our team for full safety information prior to your stay.

The bedrooms have limited headroom, the ceiling height might be a bit tricky for taller people. Please also be cautious of the exposed wooden floor beams, as they may pose a trip hazard when getting in and out of bed.

The fridge at the property is an under-counter fridge freezer, which does mean its limited on space. Don't worry though, there is a separate wine cooler!

Please note that The Old Church is located off of a busy main road (although there is minimal noise inside).

For security reasons there is a camera installed outside of the property.

There is an extra charge for logs and kindling to burn on the fire (October- March) but feel free to BYO!

As we change the hot tub water for every booking, if you arrive on a changeover day, it may take till later on your arrival day until the optimum temperature is reached... trust us though, it'll be well worth the wait!

Accessibility

Accessed via a small set of stairs, followed by a narrow spiral staircase, each of the Old Church’s three bedrooms are located on the upper floor. Alongside the two upstairs bathrooms on this level, every room has been built around the beams & slanting walls; so care will be needed throughout. Please note, the master bedrooms requires the most agility, as to access the bed guests will be required to step over a beam.

There is a slight step up to the TV/ sofa area on the ground floor, and another step on the mezzanine level; but please do refer to the pictures and talk to our team for more in-depth information.

Please refer to the virtual tour to explore the property. All bedrooms are located over the second floor.

Location, location, location...

The Old Church is positioned within the quintessential New Forest landscape of Mockbeggar (near Ringwood), where you can expect to see donkeys and horses roaming free amongst thatched cottages and abundant countryside.

Exploring the Hampshire / Dorset coast is also easy from here (Mudeford and Southbourne beaches just 25 minutes) & there are plenty of family-friendly activities, such as Moors Valley Country Park and the Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park, which are between 10 and 20 minutes away. You can also dive into the New Forest Water Park (only a 3 minute drive) where you'll find all sorts of floaty, colourful shapes to jump on, balance off and fall in from.

This converted church is in the far western limit of the National Park. The 'village' (it's tiny and has no shops) area feels very Hampshire; safe, pretty and perfect. It's really only the naughty pigs that defy any behaviour codes here!

This is a truly special place. What stands out is the attention to detail - the Church is beautifully converted and decorated, well-equipped, and the care shown in creating this space shines through. VERY comfy beds, well-equipped kitchen and everything spotless. The church is so spacious that you can always find a quiet corner to curl up and relax - unless you're chilling in the hot tub or losing at snooker! As mentioned in the listing, it is quite close to a busy road, but the very thick walls (!) insulate the sound downstairs (you can hear a bit of traffic upstairs, but it wasn't a problem). Highly recommended.

Wow what an amazing place to stay! It’s beautifully stylish and really has the wow factor. Every room is impeccably designed and spotless. The dining table that converts into a pool table was a wonder with the whole family along with the organ and super bagatelle game. The hot tub in the graveyard garden was super special and if we’d come at a warmer time of the year then the fire pit and benches would have been out to great use too. The beds are so comfy and all the family slept well. Thoughtful hosting meant there was a lovely welcome pack and plenty of supplies including tea and coffee pods and dishwasher tablets etc (which lots of hosts skimp on!). Thank you - we had a wonderful break in this truly spectacular place.

5 stars. Had the best time away lovely house (church) amazing pub next door and lots of walks.

Alice February 2026

A really unusual place to stay. Great atmosphere. We wanted to do something 'different' for Christmas with the (adult) family - and The Old Church certainly delivered on that front! A few minor niggles: A bit chilly at times. The timed heating not quite on long enough at this time of year. We were able to boost the heating after contacting the property manager. Lovely kitchen but strangely no cupboards for storing non-perishable food (which was challenging for a party of six adults for best part of a week). Paid extra for the hot tub, which was good fun.

Andrew December 2025

We had a perfect stay at The Old Church. Its been beautifully restored with lovely mordern homely features. The hot tub was perfect after a day of exploring the new forest by bike. The pool table gave us hours of entertainment for the whole family. We would highly recommend The Old Church to all our friends and family. Thank you for a fabulous 4 days.

Judy October 2025

What a beautiful and unique place to stay! We loved the unusual and original features alongside the modern touches. The hot tub added a bit of luxury, how many people can say they "hot tubbed" in an old graveyard. Very well located to access the New Forest - we even went over to the Isle of Wight for the day. Enjoyed food/beer at the Old Beams. The property had everything we needed for our stay - we would have loved to know a bit more about the history of the church and its transformation.

The Dodd Family July 2025

Fabulous transformation of a lovely church. We really enjoyed our stay! The garden is lovely and serene (despite the traffic)! The Old Beams food wasnt great but the beers are good! Recommend The Red Shot for pub food. Blashford Lakes Nature reserve is fab. Friendly staff, lots of birds and wildlife to spot. Take binoculars, but they can lend you some if you forget! Driving through the New Forest is lovely. Lots of ponies and foals.

The Dunns and Chamberlins July 2025

We loved the original features and high quality fixtures and fittings. The hot tub was a lovely touch. Spotlessly clean and well maintained. Spiral staircase was tricky to manoeuvre. Would love more information on history of the building.

Linsay July 2025

What a fabulous reimagining of a redundant church! Original features have been incorporated in a tasteful way with modern luxury. Plenty of interesting details to notice on closer inspection. It's a pleasure to sit in the garden and admire the roses and honeysuckle, mixed with native plants. A great location to explore the New Forest and Coast. We hope to return.....

David & Elizabeth May 2025

Had a lovely time staying in the Old Church! Original and intriguing building and fantastically located for walks and cycles. We hired bikes from Sandy Balls cycle centre and came on a route that brought us back to Ibsley, then past the Alice Lisle Pub and up into the Forest on a cycle track from Linford bottom to Red Shoot campsite. Fun - even in the rain! We drove 25mins to Hengisbury Head, where one of us went for a swim... We did he walking route on the Potting Shed cafes website after having tea and cake outside sitting in the sun. Its a beautiful varied walk.

Rowles April 2025

Staying in this charming church is such a unique and peaceful experience! The space is beautifully restored, blending historic features with modern comforts. The high ceilings and tall windows create such a serene atmosphere, and the cozy touches made it feel like a home away from home. If you’re looking for a memorable, tranquil getaway, this place is a hidden gem! Highly recommend!
