What we love...

A heated swimming pool and hot tub with tempting azure waters, perfect for luxurious dips and leisurely swims.

A fun-filled games room, home bar area and abundant tree-lined grounds to explore.

A golden ticket for multigenerational stays and larger groups, with plenty of space to spread out and relax.

Like a glistening oasis hidden amongst the trees, Ashdale is a real gem of a find for friends and families seeking memorable moments.

Ashdale Cottage Style

Those lucky enough to be on the guest list will certainly be torn when it comes to their chosen method of relaxation. With the sparkling heated pool (open from May Half Term to September) and tempting hot tub (open year-round), games room and home bar, along with lush grounds to explore, there’s plenty to keep you entertained.

After a busy day wandering the endless acres of open countryside that await down the lane and paddling at the nearby beaches of Christchurch, Ashdale Cottage provides a delightfully warm welcome home.

Pony-dotted views bring your fabulous New Forest location to the forefront, inviting you to get fully immersed in slow country living. Open the windows to be serenaded by birdsong, get creative in the spacious kitchen and keep toasty by the fire come nightfall – simple pleasures are best savoured together.

Ideal For Family & Group Stays

Inside

The gorgeous AGA and flagstone floor make your large kitchen the stuff of country living dreams… we’d struggle to conjure up a more welcoming spot. For meals deserving a more formal setting, simply veer next door to feast fireside in the separate dining area (the adjoining patio is also perfection for BBQs & alfresco meals, so you really are spoilt for choice!)

As the evening draws in, you have a staggered approach to relaxation, as the split level living/ lounging room sets the perfect stage for late night chattering & charades… Lose track of time as you light the fire and pour a glass of something delicious. For a show stopping end to the night, we’d highly recommend opening the doors to enjoy a nightcap under the wide skies.

All of the fresh air & merriment is bound to tire you out, but thankfully there are four neat-as-a-pin bedrooms upstairs, offering country charm galore. Whilst the master suite does boast a rather sparkly en-suite, the family bathroom (bagsy the claw foot bath!) & separate WC, are also at-your-service.

Providing a separate and self- contained space, the lovey annexe ‘Little Ashdale’, is just steps away from the main cottage; with an open plan kitchenette & dining / living area, and a kingsize en-suite to-boot… grandparents & teenagers of the party will be happy!

Outside

The tree-lined vistas at Ashdale are sure to still even the busiest of minds… as are the Olympic amount of outdoor excursions to be enjoyed! Diving into the vast pool, slinking into the bubbly hot tub, getting competitive in the games room, and heading into the heath- it’s all there for the taking!

Appearing like a mirage, *the (seasonal) 27 degrees heated pool provides 9 x 4.5 square meters of pure aqua joy; 1.25m deep and whilst you’d be hard pushed not to succumb, the sunbeds are perfectly poised for soaking up the rays.

To savour every drop of sunshine, the outdoor sofa area will elevate your morning coffee, and the outdoor dining table is perfectly poised next to the kitchen and impressive BBQ. From both spots, you can survey pastures new, and overlook the neighbouring New Forest ponies as they graze… perfection.

Over in the games lodge, you’ll find a decent sized football table & basket game amongst its many treasures. All this play is definitely thirsty work, but luckily the bar is on- hand to help.

Location, location, location...

The nearby village of Bransgore a sleepy spot with a few pubs and a small handful of local shops.

If you are after a larger (but still somewhat sleepy) village, a visit to Burley is just the ticket. Potter around the local shops, stop for a drink in a sunny beer garden or take time out from cooking and enjoy one of the foodie places it has to offer.

There are plenty of family-friendly activities nearby, such as Moors Valley Country Park and the Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park.

Hengistbury Head is another great spot. Park on the ‘mainland’ side of Mudeford and walk the 20-30 mins up and over to Mudeford Spit. From there you can drop down to the beaches through the foresty sides of the ‘Head’. The views from here are beautiful.

For those with prams or wheelchairs, take the track along the flat route and on your return, jump aboard the ‘Noddy’ (land) train that runs between the car park and the cafe.

We stayed in Ashdale cottage between Christmas and New Year, a 3 generation family including 3 small children. The place was perfect for us, a great kitchen which we used a lot as the children were too young to be out in the evening. The house has lots of space so we could 'spread out' and with a nice garden. We used the hot tub which was excellent and particularly enjoyed by the 4 year old. The bedrooms were a good size and the couple of early problems we had (the keys to the lodge, extending the heating hours) were all dealt with in 5 minutes.

We had a wonderful family pre-Christmas weekend here. The location is excellent, with easy access to the New Forest and the beach, which gave us plenty of options for walks and fresh air. The house had great facilities and worked really well for a family stay, with plenty of space to relax, dine, and spend time together. The games room was a real highlight and kept everyone entertained, and the hot tub was a real bonus — especially lovely to enjoy in the winter. A comfortable, well-located place that’s ideal for a family getaway — we’d happily return.

Patrick December 2025

Ashdale Cottage is perfect for a summer holiday. The pool and the garden are lovely - beautiful outlook to trees and fields (with ponies). Walks over the heathland and forest are just the other side of the road (also with ponies). Great not to have to get in the car to experience this. We used the barbecue every evening for cooking and ate outside. There is excellent shade under the beautiful willow tree. Our three generations family had a very enjoyable week. New Forest Escapes responded speedily and efficiently to the few issues we had.

July 2025

The main house is very comfortable with a beautiful, large lounge with a log fire where we spent our evenings relaxing and chatting. During the day we enjoyed sitting out in the sun on the garden furniture and using the hot tub (the pool wasn't available to use this time of year) and the privacy of the large garden. There were a few things we weren't happy with about the quality of the annexe, but the property manager was so helpful and came over to sort this out for us. The location is stunning and we had a walk over to Burley across the gorse and horse filleds for a delicious pub lunch. We all came away agreeing we were relaxed and had really enjoyed our stay.
