What we love...

With its thatched roof, exposed beams, and timber frame, Forge Cottage is full of historic charm.

Thoughtfully furnished and wonderfully atmospheric, it’s a great spot to unwind.

The location offers a tranquil escape with easy access to countryside walks and historic surroundings.

Do you dream of escaping to a classic thatched country cottage in a proper chocolate-box village? Forge Cottage is exactly that. A quaint and characterful one-bedroom retreat sleeping two guests, tucked away in the peaceful hamlet of Bickton on the outskirts of Fordingbridge. With a large garden backing onto open fields and ancient countryside walks starting right from the door, the centre of Fordingbridge is just a ten-minute stroll along the river and the New Forest is right on your doorstep. Perfect for those looking to slow right down.

Forge Cottage Style

Cosy, comfortable and wonderfully atmospheric. A sympathetic renovation has woven twenty-first century comforts into the fabric of an old-world country cottage without losing any of its charm. Exposed beams, traditional plank and latch doors, sloping floorboards and low ceilings all tell the story of a building with real history. It is the kind of place that wraps itself around you.

Location, location, location...

Forge Cottage sits in Bickton, a quiet hamlet in the parish of Fordingbridge, right on the edge of the New Forest. Ancient footpaths and drove roads head off in every direction, making it ideal for long walks in genuinely unspoilt countryside. The kind of place where you can walk for miles and barely see another soul.

Fordingbridge itself is just a ten-minute stroll along the river. It is a proper New Forest market town with a seven-arched medieval bridge, independent shops and some excellent places to eat and drink. The George is a reliable riverside pub with a terrace, the Royal Oak at Gorley does brilliant seasonal local food, and Hockeys Farm Shop at South Gorley is well worth a visit for sourdough, deli produce and a good cafe stop.

For a bigger day out, Breamore House and Gardens is close by, as are the remarkable Miz Maze chalk labyrinth and Moors Valley Country Park for families. The Avon Valley Path runs through Fordingbridge too, connecting Salisbury to Christchurch with some beautiful riverside walking.

A truly lovely holiday cottage, compact, yet full of charm, character and cosy comforts. The bedroom is beautifully appointed, with a wonderfully comfortable feel, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind. As an older cottage, it has plenty of unique character and charm, but the real highlight has to be the fantastic, spacious garden a wonderful spot to enjoy the outdoors. Ideally located just a short distance from Hockeys Farm Shop and the lovely town of Ringwood, it’s a perfect little retreat for a relaxing getaway.
