Glorious! This aristocratic stately home is well known locally for it’s particular style of creative fun. Come here for a heady combination of glamour and eccentric British life.
Pylewell is steeped in history, and there are many stories that can be told about it’s life and development through the ages. Staying here is to go back in time… the 1940’s, the 1920’s and the late 18th century are alive and well! Make sure you bring your black tie, smoking jackets and wigs… this isn’t a place to hang back…
There are 10 bedrooms in total (8 with en-suites), each absolutely bursting with character! All of the bedrooms along the front of the house have wonderful views stretching over The Solent and the Isle of Wight and, in true keeping with the rest of the house, many are on a grand scale!
When you have finished draping yourself over the chaises, do explore the homes vast living and dining areas (get the cameras ready!), or pack something delicious and venture out to see how the land lies…
The house has 27 acres of gardens and a further 15 acres around the ornamental lake and arboretum (famous for the collection of Australian and Asian trees). In the late 1800’s the owners added a Japanese lake with ornamental bridges, islands, bamboo and starting what is now an extensive and important collection of Magnolia trees. A collection of rhododendrons was established and, now as the garden has reached its maturity, walking around the gardens is a sensory treat. From March to end Sept, it’s particularly special.
