The Lookout

The Lookout is exactly as described, immaculately clean, incredibly quiet & peaceful with great walks on the doorstep for Finn our young lab. The Lookout had everything we wanted for our wedding anniversary getaway. The tranquility, fresh air and pitch black along with the super comfortable bed made for brilliant nights sleep for both of us. Tank you - we will be back. N&F

The Lookout is a quaint little one bedroom property with an incredible view in a quiet corner of the New Forest. We could walk our dog directly into the forest and literally walk for miles. Don't forget anything for supper as there are no local supermarkets, but nearby pubs offered good food, namely The Royal Oak and The Three Lions. The cottage itself has a secure garden which is great for our four legged friends. It had everything we needed for our three night stay, it was immaculately clean and host Tracey ensures that everything is just right, she is brilliant and living locally offers some great tips. The bed is super comfortable and with no light pollution you should get a great nights sleep. We will almost certainly go again.

We thorough enjoyed our short break. The property was beautifully presented and little extras such as milk, tea, coffee and some treats were really well received. The views from the property were spectacular and there were numerous walks directly from the property. We were very lucky in seeing an abundance of ponies, donkeys and cows and were also lucky enough to have deer meandering through the garden. We walked to The Royal Oak pub where the staff were very friendly and the food was good. The local farm shop was also excellent . We really enjoyed our few days away and will be looking to return soon.

Fantastic! A very comfortable cottage with spectacular views! Sadly our weather wasn't too great but it didn't detract from complete relaxation. We will return!

Magical, peaceful, and surrounded by wildlife! From the moment we arrived, we knew we were somewhere special—we were literally welcomed by the local ponies and donkeys! The Lookout is an incredible place to stay. It was spotlessly clean and packed with many home comforts. The location gives you easy, direct access to multiple walking trails, but it was just as tempting to sit in the garden and enjoy the amazing views. If you love nature, this place offers a wonderful "overdose" of wildlife, beautifully balanced by a blissful, complete silence at night. It is the perfect forest escape. We couldn't recommend it more highly and cannot wait to go back!

An absolutely wonderful place to stay, the cottage is very comfortable and well equipped, loved the wine fridge! The decking area is wonderful, a great place to unwind, sadly we only had one nice day/evening but it was a delight to hear birdsong, watch the ponies, deer and bats.

A truly magical location – what a wonderful way to spend the week... "The Lookout" is a perfect little hideaway. We have especially loved spotting the wildlife – donkeys and horses both greeted us on the road. Plenty of blossom every morning & evening. We could stay here the whole summer!!... if only! Things we did: Day 1. Lepe Loop Walk Day 2. Mottisfont Abbey. Day 3. Lymington & Burley Day 4. Minstead Walk & Acres Down Tearoom – nice cake! Day 5. Beaulieu Motor Museum.

The Lookout had everything we needed for the perfect week. It was our first trip to the New Forest and it was magical. The location of the cottage is ideal. You can walk and explore for hours from the doorstep and our car spent most the time on the drive. The Potting Shed is only a 15 min walk (5min drive) away and the breakfasts are 10/10, especially on a lovely sunny day when you can sit in the garden. We also walked to the High Corner Inn (about 90mins the long way) and had an amazing lunch. The views from the decking are simply stunning. Nature opens up in front of you and it takes your breath away. If you can manage to rise with the sun you won't be disappointed - the dawn chorus and foraging deer made our coffee taste even sweeter. The cottage itself is the perfect place for 2 (plus dog). Very well maintained and all the comforts of home. Well equipped modern kitchen, lovely bathroom with large shower, and a very comfy bedroom. The aspect of the house is great too as you get all the morning sun in the kitchen and living room, and the afternoon sun in the garden. The view from the kitchen table, looking out across Hampton Ridge through the trees nearly matches the view from the decking. We also booked the week before half-term so on most days, it felt like we had the New Forest to ourselves. Perfection

Magical Holiday. Magical cottage with a superb location. We are so glad we stayed for a week at the Lookout. The cottage is surprisingly spacious and very bright and airy with every home comfort provided. The view from the deck is incredible. The garden is surrounded by oak trees and the bird song was gorgeous. Just across the little lane is where you can walk, quite literally for days. Our spaniel loved his holiday as much as we did. Lunch at The Potting shed (within walking distance or 4 mins by car) was so good we visited 3 times!

Short break in Frogham. The cottage has recently been refurbished and everything worked well. For serious cooking, the cottage is low on equipment, but perfectly adequate for simple meals. The views from the kitchen and balcony are wonderful. The accommodation is located on the edge of Frogham and you walk straight onto the Forest, which is delightful.

The Lookout was in an amazing location for great walks, the view from the decking was amazing. Perfect setting for a short break in the New Forest, highly recommend if you want to explore the area. 5 stars.

Beautiful cottage - perfect for what we needed. Will defiantly stay here again! Being able to just cross the road and walk for miles is awesome! We did the circular walk to Fritham including lunch at The Royal Oak. Sunday was wet - walked to North Gorley and had a long lunch at The Royal Oak (another one!) - and that is a FANTASTIC PUB - well worth a visit. Leaving today and stopping at Godshill on way home for another walk!

Beautiful Cottage, everything was perfect. Just what we needed. Wished we could have stayed longer! We visited Beaulieu and Brockenhurst and loved all the wildlife.

We booked a short notice break so were limited in choice across booking sites due to dates etc, stumbled upon New Forest Escapes and have not been disappointed. Customer service and communication efficient and friendly. The Lookout was in a brilliant position with lovely views across the Forest and walks from the front door. The cottage was cosy and comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing break.

Chocolate box cottage with the most beautiful view! Wishing we had brought binoculars. We saw deer and of course the wild ponies and donkeys that have made the New Forest their own, so watch out! The inside of the cottage was lovely. However, the furniture in the living room was cramped and small. If you tend to spread out at home watching the telly you can't really do that here. The kitchen was well appointed. For guests that want to cook most meals, it is missing a 2nd skillet. Frying up potatoes and pan frying chicken does then require planning. The balcony was beautiful! What a view. And the garden was a paradise for our dog with it's natural hilly terrain. All in all, we would do it all over again and pack a second, smaller skillet. ; )

Lovely cosy retreat with forest walks on your doorstep. Wonderful part of the forest and lots of wildlife to see and hear. The donkeys and horses are delightful.

Perfect! Booked for a 60th birthday celebration and wasn't disappointed! The best location to explore The New Forest with walks right on the doorstep! Wildlife galore to view from the garden. Cottage is well kept and in an excellent position! We did a beach walk with the dog at Highcliffe beach which we highly recommend with views of the Isle Of Wight and The Needles. The Hampton Ridge to Fritham walk was great and The Potting Shed for breakfast with fabulous food and coffee. The Od Beams thatched pub did the best fish and chips ever!

Wonderful, cosy, well-appointed cottage in an idyllic location. I settled in straight away and it is perfect for peaceful relaxation and fantastic walks straight from the door. The views from the cottage are breathtaking and the wildlife incredible.

We had a really great holiday here. The cottage is lovely + clean, also quite airy in 30° heat! Great walks/runs with the dog right outside the gate. Perfect location for seeing the whole of the New Forest. Plus we have been blessed with the weather! The Foresters Arms pub just up the road serves good food.

A very cosy and comfortable cottage set in a stunning, peaceful location with close access to walks over the moors. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

A wonderful week in a lovely cottage with stunning views. We have enjoyed lots of cycling and some delicious meals in local pubs. We visited Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst, Lymington, Burley and Ringwood.

We’ve been to the New Forest on several occasions and this is by far the best we have stayed in. Very cosy and perfect for our dog. Cannot wait to come back. We loved it!

Such a wonderful cottage with a great terrace/deck and marvellous views. What more could you want for a relaxing holiday. The donkeys, ponies and deer on the roads and everywhere in the landscape are marvellous hiking companions. We take wonderful memories back to Germany.

We spent pretty much every morning and every evening on the decking, relaxing and watching the wildlife. Deer came right up close and stayed for a long time in the evening sun. An idyllic location, a gorgeous cottage with lovely ground. Great location and a really good pub just a 5 minute walk away.

What a perfect location. Everyday deer outside in the field. Fantastically quiet and brilliant for walking from the door. Really comfortable, everything I could need for an easy and relaxing stay. I am amazed even at this time of year you can feel you're the only one walking amongst the deer, rabbits, ponies, birds and other wildlife. Bliss.

Wonderful location - car stayed on the drive most of the time! Weather was ind only got waterproofs out once. Cottage is well equipped, clean and warm. Evenings still quite chilly for June. Totally relaxing.

Lovely quiet place, bought 2 bikes so pent 2 days cycling without having to take the car which was great. Hampton Ridge to Firtham, Odgens/North Gorley and walked in Hasley inclosure.

The location was really good for feeling lost on the Moor but still a few minutes drive to Fordingbridge to get groceries. The garden is well fenced for dogs, which gives you a less stressful / piece of mind break. The cottage admin was faultless and exceptionally prepared for arrival. Overall well fitted and presented for the price point. We tend to try new places everywhere we go but this one is on our radar for another mini break

Absolutely stunning location, the property managers were amazing and the owners were super friendly and helpful. The place is cosy and spotless, and right in the thick of it with lovely walks in all directions. You’re also only 30 mins from the coast so have lots of variety to choose from if you’re an outdoorsy person. The view - wow! We were lucky enough to have sunshine and a view of wild horses grazing on our first morning which was just magical. Inside, everything you could need in a home away from home. A couple of things to be aware of: if you arrive at night it’s pitch black and hard to spot, also the directions were based on my coming from the other direction so it took a while. The owners prefer the gate to be closed which is a bit of a faff every time you come in and go out - but apparently otherwise deer can run into the garden and struggle to get back out! Minor things that didn’t detract from the experience but might be helpful to know in advance :)

Really enjoyed the stay, birdsong was a highlight, as was the beautiful view. Great location for wildlife lovers, short walk to see the Stonechats, Warblers and even Crossbill. Lovely cottage, clean, comfortable and welcoming. Enjoyed birdwatchingat Boulderwood Deer Sanctuary and Keyhaven.

A fairy-tale like cottage and location and a relaxing stay. I slept like a dog in that most comfortable bed! Suggestion- it would be most interesting to learn about the history of this place; perhaps a print out on arrival. We visited and spent some quality time with family living in the area.

Such a lovely, well equipped cottage in the perfect location for a quiet getaway. The view is truly lovely. It has a comfortable bed and our dog Fudge loved being in the garden. We drove through the forest to Lepe Country Park. A great beach with views of the Isle Of Wight. We walked the red route (2 miles) at Bolderwood which was a great, short walk. Also in Lyndhurst- can't praise the coffee and walnut cake at 'Michelles New Forest Kitchen' enough!

What can we say! A lovely birthday weekend away! Warmly welcomed, cosy, quirky cottage with fab views and a great intro into The New Forest. We walked, walked, walked some more. The most enjoyable meal was at The Foresters accompanied by donkeys and ponies.

We have just enjoyed a well earned break in the New Forest at The Lookout. The cottage was just perfect for our needs and the views are amazing. Ponies everywhere so yes to driving carefully. Can recommend Foresters Arm. Visiitng Lyndhurst is a must. Thank you to the owners and the New Forest team.

What an absolute gem of a place! From the very first night when fallow dear magically came to the door, we loved every single minute. We saw buzzard, bullfinch, redwings and other garden birds from the deck and fell in love with the location. We also bumped into Doug (the owner) who gave us great local advice. Everything about our stay was perfect... expect it wasn't long enough.

Lovely place, wonderful location had a great time! We walked and walked, so convenient to be able to walk across the road and just walk.

Beautiful property, nice getaway, quiet lovely cottage, kitchen was amazing for cooking, felt very at home. We visited Buckley farm shop, watched the great views and met local wildlife and enjoyed walks in the forest.

What a gem in the New Forest! An attractive place with all the trimmings. The weather was kind to us, so could enjoy the beautiful view and the garden even more after our nice walks. The cottage was very pleasant with an attractive homely interior. We immediately felt at home! We walked at Bucklers Hard, Fritham, Lyndhurst, The Rufus Stone. We enjoyed the lovely view from the Lookout Deck and met the local fallow deer.

We have loved out stay in the Lookout, a very comfortable and cosy cottage, well equipped, with everything we needed. The forest location is stunning and the view wonderful. The Deer visited regularly in search of acorns - so special to see. We enjoyed walks from the cottage and around Godshill (Park at Godshill inclosure) Favourite places - Bucklers Hard, Lymington (Good Saturday market) and Milford on Sea.

I was literally blown over by the views here, and felt lost in the landscape from the terrace. With the forest quite literally on your doorstep, this is the perfect spot to spend the days exploring and the nights hunkering down. I didn't want to leave!

There is a magical feeling at The Lookout, where the views and the charming cottage transport you back in time. Having your morning coffee with these views is something very special, and I love the fact that you feel like you are immersed in a wilderness documentary with all of the different species of animals roaming the landscape! The abundance of tracks here also means that you can explore at your own pace; with walking, biking and horse riding all there for the taking.
