Discovered down a quiet foresty lane and against a soundscape of birdsong is Burley Mews – a stylish, dog-friendly retreat that’s spot on for a couple or small family. A quaint wooden gate separates the private leafy garden from open forest out the front, while the honeypot village of Burley is a gentle walk away.

Step inside to find interiors that are chic, calming and comfortable. They have been beautifully styled by Willow Lifestyle of Lymington to create a smart and sophisticated yet soothing retreat of neutrals, subtle country tones and mid-century design that is simply perfect for a quiet chillout.

The living is easy at Burley Mews. The welcoming, relaxed open plan sitting, dining and kitchen room and master bedroom are all on the first floor. The ground floor bedroom is set up with a double bed, and single bunk beds.

A picnic bench in the mature leafy gardens is tempting for sipping a morning coffee or enjoying an al fresco picnic lunch, and there’s always the option of old-fashioned fun playing games on the lawn.

If you fancy a drink before supper, or don’t feel like cooking at all, you are sorted: The White Buck, a popular country inn with a big family garden for Summer and open fires in winter, is only a stroll down the lane. Otherwise dip in to the gentle buzz of Burley life. There are some lovely cafes and places to grab a takeaway picnic, and you can hire bikes for your forest adventure or even hitch a wagon ride.

* Charges apply for the additional room. You will need to select more than 2 people when making the booking to ensure you have added the extra bedroom. Should this be added to your booking, on the ground floor you can enjoy a shower room and good-sized family bedroom with a double and single bunk beds.

Inside

The front door opens onto a hallway with wooden floor. Head upstairs, where the main action is. A spacious carpeted landing has vast cupboards that discreetly house the washing machine and tumble dryer, plus there’s enough space to stash suitcases. A further landing has a sweet little desk looking out over the forest. This is the perfect spot to read, write your journal, daydream, or even catch up on some work if you really have to.

The open plan living space, includes a sitting area, dining table and stylish bespoke country-style kitchen. The combination of deeply snug sofa, mid-century seating, painted woods and soothing neutrals, along with a colour scheme in soft shades of sky, stream, pine and leaf, create a super relaxing area for settling in, snuggling down, cuddling up and chilling out.

Burley Mews is a modern cottagey retreat created by interior designers Willow Lifestyle. It is all about quality finishes and personal touches such as local artwork. It feels cosy with carpet throughout the living area, landing and bedrooms, although there’s just a touch of an elegant minimal Scandi vibe.

The farmhouse style kitchen includes big fridge/ freezer, oven, dishwasher, microwave and masses of tableware, pans and storage. In short everything you need for rustling up breakfast, lunch and supper with ease and sitting down at the table.

If country air makes you ready to hit the hay, the master bedroom is a welcoming sanctuary with a deep padded headboard, comfy mattress, plain painted walls, and low lighting for bedtime reading. Simply pull down the blinds, breathe deeply and you’re off to the forest of nod. If your party is slightly larger, there is an additional ground floor bedroom which can be added to your *booking to accommodate an additional 2 people.

The family bathroom is boutique country modern spa-style with ‘subway’ tiles the colour of storm clouds – just perfect for a soak or a freshen up under the shower.

Location, location, location...

With the forest beyond the gate and Burley village down the lane, this is the perfect country bolthole, combining forest adventures and village bustle. The White Buck Inn is an easy stroll down the foresty lane if you want a pre-dinner drink or time out from cooking, and Burley village is close by with plenty of foodie places to eat and drink.

Noohn is a fab stop for breakfast, coffee or to grab a picnic. Head to a beer garden for lunch, or head to one of the two local stores if you want to stock up and dish up something yummy back at your Mews.

For days out, we suggest hiring bikes in the village and heading off down the many forest tracks. The team at New Forest Cycling are super helpful and our guests enjoy a discount too. We love the circular route around the edge of the village.

Hogwarts pupils (and alumni) can visit the spells and witchy stores. Meanwhile Golfers can amble along to the local golf club and join in for the day and you can always drop by Burley Cider Farm and hitch a ride on Burley Wagon Rides if you have time.

Nearby Hengistbury Head is a great spot for seaside fun, and only 25 minutes from Burley Mews. Park on the ‘mainland’ side of Mudeford and walk the 20-30 mins up and over to Mudeford Spit. From there you can drop down to the beaches through the foresty sides of the ‘Head’. The views from here are beautiful. For those with prams or wheelchairs, take the track along the flat route and on your return, jump aboard the ‘Noddy’ (land) train that runs between the car park and the cafe.

Also visit the nearby village of Bransgore - it's a sleepy, quaint spot with a few pubs and a small handful of local shops.

The accommodation was beautifully furnished with a lovely garden and situated in an ideal location for exploring the New Forest and nearby coastal areas of Beaulieu, Bucklers Hard, Hurst Castle and Hengistbury Head. There are plenty of local restaurants to provide the necessary sustenance after a hard day walking in the Forest.

We had a lovely stay at Burley Mews - such a peaceful retreat in a perfect location for exploring the New Forest by bike. The apartment was spotlessly clean, well equipped, and spacious enough for our family of four to relax comfortably. Everything felt thoughtfully arranged, making it easy to settle in and feet at home. Although the weather didn't quite cooperate during our visit, the charming garden area with a BBQ looked ideal for sunny evenings - we'd love to return and make the most of it next time. Highly recommend for families looking for a quiet, well-located base to enjoy the New Forest.

Burley Mews is in a wonderful location - with New Forest poinies and cows wandering nearby, it's such a glorious sight just a stones throw away! The house is well-equiped and nicely presented. Parking in the lay-by outside was no problem at all. You can leave the car there and enjoy 15 minute walk into Burley Village through the woods and past the church.

Thank you for a wonderful stay at Burley Mews. The place was beautiful, peaceful and had everything we needed. We've left a small thank you gift - Ferrero Rocher to show our appreciation. Best wishes!

What a pleasure it has been for us to have such a lovely Mews apartment, in the very heart of The New Forest as a base to go out from for exploring the woodland and coast of the area. It was an absolute pleasure to arrive here on my birthday to the extra touches- the biscuits, coffee and wine! I sit now writing with the only regret being that we have run out of time. Duke our Jack Russell especially enjoyed his trips across the lane into the woods looking for wildlife. Good thing he was on a lead. Thank you.

A beautiful mews style flat, right in the heart of the New Forest, with open woodland immediately outside your front gate. No need to drive anywhere. The mews has a great feeling about it with a modern/rustic charm. Lots of details you may otherwise note get in a holiday cottage - the Nespresso coffee machine with coffee pods, wine in the fridge and even biscuits. Not to mention the tea bags. These small touches made us feel very spoiled and cared for.

Lovely New Forest cottage. Beautiful walk through the woods to Burley. Very clean, well equipped and furnished. Great pre-arrival information. Would recommend.

Kate May 2025

What a lovely cottage in a great location. Everything was very comfortable and we loved all the extra touches to make us feel spoilt like the biscuits and activity packs for the kids. We will happily recommend the Mews and hopefully be back we we come to the New Forest again.

The Roccos April 2025

We rented out Burley Mews in the New Forest for a weekend and it was lovely. We had brought our German Shepherd and they were super welcoming, leaving us treats, poo bags ands wipes for his paws. The property was lovely and in a great location and was an excellent weekend. Finally, the staff were really supportive and friendly and answered my questions really quickly in the run up to staying there. Would definitely use again.

Thank you for an amazing stay for my birthday weekend. Lots of beautiful walks with our dog, great food, location and beautiful house. The lemon drizzle cake and wines were so lovely as well and our dog loved the chicken liver treats. We were luckily blessed with amazing weather and it was such a perfect weekend, thank you so much.

Was there anything that didn’t happen during this week? The Pig, ultra marathons, markets, park runs, pub lunches, hidden ditches… Thanks for your amazing hospitality and warmth. A highlight of our trip.
